Exceptional Wines from the Enchanting Le Marche Region
At just 21 years old, the owner of Vigna Della Cava made a life-changing move from Milan to the picturesque Marche region. Here, he quickly fell in love with the local wines and the unique terroir. His journey in the wine industry began with valuable experiences in renowned businesses that shaped his understanding of winemaking. In 2014, a serendipitous opportunity arose to rent a historic Montepulciano vineyard in Offagna, leading to the creation of a remarkable pink wine. The first harvest was unforgettable, resulting in a wine that is both delicate and structured, showcasing the region's potential.
Vineyards in Montepulciano: Philosophy and Care
Offagna, a charming medieval town perched at 309 meters above sea level, offers stunning views of the Marche landscape. The vineyards here benefit from optimal exposure and meticulous care, adhering to organic practices that respect the environment. While the vines may appear untamed, this natural approach preserves the delicate balance of the ecosystem, ensuring high-quality grapes.
Artistry in Winemaking
At Vigna Della Cava, the focus is on achieving simplicity in winemaking. The goal is to cultivate healthy grapes that require minimal intervention. Rather than producing "natural" wines, they create straightforward wines using organic methods and a commitment to sustainability. The winery incorporates eco-friendly practices, including rainwater collection and low-CO2 packaging, to minimize its environmental impact.
A Unique Terroir: From Quarry to Vineyard
In the cellar, Vigna Della Cava produces around 1,000 bottles of wine annually, with a blend of Flo and Corniolo grapes. In 2015, the winery acquired 3 hectares of land in Offagna, previously an abandoned sand quarry. This site, situated 300 meters above sea level and facing Mount Conero, inspired the planting of white grape varieties. In 2017, they introduced Manzoni Bianco, a hybrid of Riesling and Pinot Bianco, alongside the native Verdicchio grape, to create wines that reflect the character of the Marche region.
