Wine tasting at Weingut Kaufmann
Enjoy a guided tour and wine tasting in Rheingau Valley at Weingut Kaufmann with some culinary delights
Located in the municipality of Hattenheim in the Rheingau wine region is the Kaufmann Weingut. The company was founded in 2013 by Urban Kaufmann and Eva Raps. Kaufmann, a Swiss native, ran one of the best Appenzeller cheese dairies until 2013 and now his focus has shifted to different grape varietals. Raps is the creative head and responsible for hospitality, sales and marketing. She was a former managing director for the Association of German Quality Wine Producers for over a decade.
This winery is officially certified by the Demeter Association since 2017 which certifies Biodynamic Vineyards. Biodynamic farming meets organic farming standards like chemical-free, pesticide-free and so much beyond it. In such systems, the natural defenses of the vines are strengthened naturally. Water conservation is prioritized. There is a reduced dependence on imported materials for pest control and fertility. Besides these, there are multiple things considered which makes a vineyard biodynamic and it is often said that wines from such vineyards have uniqueness and expressive taste.
The varietals grown in the vineyards are Riesling, Weissburgunder, Grauburgunder, Chardonnay, Pinot Noir which are used to craft red, white, sparkling and dessert wines. Approximately 140 thousand bottles of wine and sparkling wines are produced in this winery.
This winery beholds the membership of VDP (Association of German quality wine estates) and has prioritized the nature’s process, hospitality and maintaining a personal connection with their wine lovers.

We had a great tasting of very good quality wines. It was a learning experience on Reinghau wines. Happy to bring some home!!
Despite the description on the Winetourism page has promised the things which are not actually offered (like light snack and production facilities and cellar tour) it was a great experience. The two stellars of it were the great wines and the fact that those were presented by the owners. We have tasted 9 wines including great Tale Riesling and magnificient Hassel GG Pinot Noir '20. Special thanks to the hosts for tolerating us being late as our visit actually ended well after the official working hours.
The wine tasting was a perfect experience! We were welcomed by the owner of Weingut Kaufmann and he showed us around the place incl. providing super interesting facts about the wine preparation. Afterwards, we spent time tasting up to 8 or 9 different wines. It was so great and tasteful that we directly bought 4 bottles to bring home. Thank you very much - we highly recommend the Weingut Kaufmann for a tasting!
