Weingut Kaufmann is nestled in the charming municipality of Hattenheim, within the renowned Rheingau wine region of Germany. Founded in 2013 by Urban Kaufmann and Eva Raps, this winery combines a rich heritage with innovative practices. Urban, originally from Switzerland, previously operated a top Appenzeller cheese dairy before shifting his focus to winemaking. Eva, with over a decade of experience as the managing director for the Association of German Quality Wine Producers, brings her expertise in hospitality, sales, and marketing to the winery.
Since 2017, Weingut Kaufmann has been certified by the Demeter Association, which recognizes its commitment to biodynamic farming. This approach goes beyond organic standards, emphasizing natural vineyard health, water conservation, and reduced reliance on external inputs for pest control and soil fertility. Wines produced from biodynamic vineyards are often noted for their unique and expressive flavors, reflecting the care and attention given to the vines.
The winery cultivates a variety of grapes, including Riesling, Weissburgunder, Grauburgunder, Chardonnay, and Pinot Noir, which are used to create an array of red, white, sparkling, and dessert wines. With an annual production of approximately 140,000 bottles, Weingut Kaufmann is dedicated to quality and craftsmanship.

Write a reviewAs part of the Rheingau gourmet weeks, we were able to enjoy food and drink here. The hosts were very friendly and attentive. The food was delicious and, last but not least, the wines were excellent and reasonably priced. We would love to come back.

We had a very cozy evening with delicious cheese fondue and matching organic wines. A lovely atmosphere and welcoming hosts. I would have liked the presenter to have provided more detailed information about organic farming and the differences between organic and conventional wines, which are also reflected in the price. All in all, a real insider tip. We'll be back.

Great wines and a very friendly and personable winemaking couple. Urban Kaufmann showed us his cellar and we were even able to taste the top wine Pinot Noir Hassel GG. Our personal favorites are the Weissburgunder and the Grauburgunder. Both wines have addictive potential.
