History of Weingut Balthasar Ress

The story of Weingut Balthasar Ress began in 1870 with Balthasar Ress, a passionate young man who opened the “Gasthof Ress” in Hattenheim. This establishment laid the groundwork for a rich tradition of hospitality and fine wine in the Rheingau region. Over the years, the winery has been shaped by four generations of the Ress family, including Carl, Paul, Stefan, and Christian, who have all contributed to its legacy while maintaining a commitment to exceptional service and quality wines.

Fine Wines, Memorable Moments

Today, under the leadership of Christian Ress, the winery has grown to become the largest eco-viticultural enterprise in Hesse as of 2019. As the family celebrates its 150th anniversary, the winery remains family-owned, with Stefan and Christian representing the fourth and fifth generations. The wine selection features a range of unique and complex wines that reflect their terroir, including bold varieties that stand apart from traditional Rieslings. The Ress family continues to uphold the highest standards in winemaking, ensuring that every bottle contributes to the motto: “Fine wines. Fine moments.”

We did the wine tour with 7 guests. It brings together what belongs together: you stand among the vines, learn about their history, their characteristics and special features and try the wine to go with it. Highly recommended!

What can I say! My 3rd Glory Night and I am always amazed at how much fun and passion goes into organizing this event. Great atmosphere with great wine and great food. And the party in the basement is legendary 🤭

We were here with Bottlestop and it was a wonderful tasting experience. Dominic did a perfect job for introducing everything. I will definitely come back next time I visit Rheingau.

A wonderful day at the northernmost vineyard in Germany, thanks to the organizers who made this day an unforgettable event. Even the sun played along. Met lots of great people, learned a lot about "Sylt wine", picked grapevines and enjoyed a glass or two of wine. Great, relaxed food. Simply beautiful. I'd love to come back and am already looking forward to it.
