Wines that are a Reflection of Time

Whalehaven Wines is the third oldest wine producer in the Hemel-en-Aarde region and is one of the first stops for exceptional Merlot. The wines are hand-crafted to celebrate each harvest and to reflect the particular nuances of each varietal.

Popular for Portraying Tradition

Over time, Whalehaven has gained a strong reputation for its French-styled Pinot Noir and Chardonnay, creating wines that evoke the elegance and reserve of fine French Burgundies here in South Africa. These classic Burgundian varietals are icons of the Hermanus region and a long-standing tradition within the Whalehaven winery portfolio.

We invite you to taste some award-winning wines and enjoy learning about their various characteristics.

A quick break away to Hermanus led us to Whalehaven Winery. We decided to do the wine and chocolate pairing which ended in a few bottles going home with us. Our favorite wine for the day was without a doubt the 2016 Merlot.

Great wines. Did the tasting, the lady was helpful and knowledgeable. And brought some, they have really old wines on sale at good prices. The 2012 Shiraz Cabernet Sauvignon blend was a surprise. Apparently the bottles were not retailed at the time due to spelling mistakes in the label. They found it later in the back of the cellar. I got it for R120 a bottle definitely worth it. After the tasting, try the bakery next door for good food.

We popped in for the wine and chocolate tasting and ended up pairing the wine and chocolate with the wine and jam tasting as well, it was absolutely fantastic!! Everything is served beautifully and the server is very knowledgeable about each and every wine served and explained each taste in such a beautiful way that you could nearly taste it before the glass ever touched your lips. The seating area is very simple but elegant and very comfortable and the view is gorgeous. The pricing for the tasting is far from expensive especially considering what a lovely experience it was. We luckily caught them on a quiet day so we had the servers full attention and didn't have to wait for anything at all. Loved it and will definitely recommend to anyone looking to do a quick tasting in the area and will absolutely be bringing my friends by as well!!
