1000 Curvas is a distinctive winery founded by Rodrigo Soares and his friend, winemaker Pedro Mota, who sought to create something unique in the Vinho Verde region of Portugal.

The Winery

Located in Baião, Quinta da Castanheira sits at the crossroads of the Vinho Verde and Douro regions, with the Douro River as a natural boundary. The winery's history dates back to 1907, just before the Vinho Verde region was officially established in 1908. For over a century, the vineyard primarily produced bulk wine, a common practice of the time.

In 2010, Armando Soares, the father of the current owner, began transforming the 2-hectare vineyard into a boutique winery, leading to the birth of the 1000 Curvas project.

The Wines

The winery focuses on crafting fresh, elegant wines, starting with a blend of Chardonnay and Alvarinho. This combination reflects their passion for vibrant and mineral-driven wines.

The Ideal Lands

The unique terroir of 1000 Curvas enhances the wine's character. The granitic soils, the Douro River, and the continental climate contribute to the complexity of the wines. Chardonnay, known for its versatility, adds structure and longevity, while Alvarinho, a native variety of Vinho Verde, brings freshness and aromatic citrus notes.

The first harvest occurred in 2014, a bittersweet moment as Armando Soares passed away later that year without witnessing the project's full realization. Rodrigo and Pedro took the reins, and in January 2017, 1000 Curvas was officially launched.

Since then, the winery has expanded, planting an additional 2 hectares of white varieties, including Viosinho, Rabigato, and Avesso, with the first wine expected in 2023. They also planted 0.5 hectares of Pinot Noir, set to be released by the end of 2022.

Currently, 1000 Curvas produces around 15,000 bottles annually, offering a selection of five wines: three whites, one rosé, and one red.
