Had lunch with the Count and his sculptor friend on our VBT bike tour. He was very accommodating and proud of the work he put into fixing the place up. The food was well seasoned and all came from the property including the wine. Impressive place with original furnishings and a big friendly dog.

Of course; we were two Brazilian couples and spent one night at Pousada Paço de Calheiros. A wonderful place with excellent service where we met the Count of Calheiros, who was very friendly and the service provided by the Manager Luiz was truly excellent.

Visit to Paço, através de uma visita guiada ao seu interior. O edifício os seus jardins remetem-nos para outras épocas e outros tempos e encantaram me!

A bit out of the way from "life" but what a great property, manor house and outbuilding. We stayed in the annex. Our kitchen was a bit dated and minimally equipped, which also has its charms. At night you can open the windows and doors (at the risk of being bothered by some mosquitos) to let the wind blow through for a while. There is no air conditioning or fan. The breakfast is excellent: rolls, eggs, bacon, cheese and cold cuts, sweets, fruit, yogurt, coffee, tea and juice. Be sure to take a walk around the property, past the vegetable garden, Japanese garden and vineyard. Be accompanied by the big, friendly dog Leon. The swimming pool is upstairs and in the annex there is a kitchen and showers with changing rooms. The indoor pool and sauna are not accessible (on request if necessary).

I'm a bit prejudiced because I live nearby and the entire family have been kindly neighbors to me, a foreigner, for decades. That said, I have watched as they have loved and maintained their home/hotel/palace, and provided a uniquely hospidible peek into Portugals history and culture. As often as I can I make a pest of myself and take guests over there and ask if I may show them the view of the beautiful green valley of the Lima River, where they can see the old Roman bridge to the village below, and a glimpse between the hills to the Atlantic ocean from the formal gardens. It's a great place to use as a base to visit the nearby attractions, very peaceful and relaxing!

We went with our 4-year-old child who fell in love with horses as soon as he arrived. We stayed in a small apartment outside the Pazo. It was incredible. We felt at home. We were greeted by a lovely girl who explained everything to us very sweetly. The place is perfect if you want to stay in a charming place, with peace and history and, to top it off, with incredible views. This is the perfect place. We will be back soon.

Lindíssima proper. After entering the house, we spent 300 years at no time, but in fact we preserved a house that was originally possible. O Sr..Conde é de uma enormous simpatia e simplicidade, assim como todo o staff. Será uma experiência a repetir.
