Ancilla Lugana – Story of a woman
The Ancilla wine estate represents the history of a great woman and the history of their wines. The owner’s grandmother was named Ancilla, a hardworking and energetic woman who woke up at 3 in the morning to carry out her work and chores. Ancilla bought two vineyards estates: La Cadellora and La Ghidina in the mid-70s with the help of her daughter, Maria Teresa. Maria looked after the vineyards and personally took care of winemaking. At the beginning of this century, Maria’s daughter had the chance to take over the family business, and she took it.
Premium Lugana winery
The owner had a job in finance but left it to look after and continue the family winemaking tradition. She worked in familiar territory and had a great experience in growing grapes, but she was not well-trained in winemaking. She started as an apprentice in the cellar and learnt everything from cleaning vats, bottling, fermentation, preparing yeast cuvees, etc. The winery celebrates the work of her grandmother, but she is as hardworking, and her team knows she is there when needed.
Amazing vineyards and wines
6 hectares of vineyards are in Lugana di Sirmione at La Ghidina estate, and 4 hectares of vineyards are around the winery. Chardonnay, Pinot Noir, and Lugana grapes are used to make their white, rose, sparkling, and dessert wines. Their products include Lugana DOC, Brut Sparkling wine, and rose wines. Each wine has its own story and unique features reflective of the terroir.
