Ancilla Lugana – A Legacy of Women in Winemaking

Ancilla wine estate is a tribute to the remarkable story of a woman who shaped its legacy. Named after the owner’s grandmother, Ancilla was a dedicated and spirited individual who began her day at 3 AM to manage her responsibilities. In the mid-1970s, she purchased two vineyard estates, La Cadellora and La Ghidina, with the support of her daughter, Maria Teresa. Maria took charge of the vineyards and the winemaking process, ensuring the family tradition continued. Today, Maria’s daughter proudly carries on this heritage, taking the reins of the family business.

A Commitment to Quality Winemaking

After a successful career in finance, the current owner decided to return to her roots and uphold the family’s winemaking tradition. Although she had extensive experience in grape cultivation, she initially lacked formal training in winemaking. She began her journey as an apprentice in the cellar, mastering essential skills such as cleaning vats, bottling, fermentation, and preparing yeast cuvées. Her dedication mirrors that of her grandmother, and her team appreciates her hands-on approach and commitment to quality.

Vibrant Vineyards and Distinctive Wines

Ancilla boasts 10 hectares of vineyards in the picturesque Lugana di Sirmione region. The estate cultivates Chardonnay, Pinot Noir, and Lugana grapes, producing a diverse range of wines, including white, rosé, sparkling, and dessert varieties. Their offerings feature Lugana DOC, Brut Sparkling wine, and exquisite rosé wines. Each bottle tells a unique story, reflecting the distinct terroir of the region and the passion behind its creation.
