The Story Behind Bodega Balcona

Bodega Balcona has deep roots in the region of Murcia, Spain. The winery was established by Josefa “la Balcona,” who built the first Balcona winery to provide wine for her workers during the Spanish Civil War. The family has maintained the winery's legacy, and in 1997, Josep Lluis Pèrez Verdú from Mas Martinet (Priorat) shared his expertise in vineyard care and winemaking philosophy. A significant label change occurred in 2004, followed by the production of their first white wine in 2016 and the launch of their first ecologically certified wines in 2018.

A Unique Terroir for Quality Wines

Bodega Balcona spans 20 acres of vineyards within a 200-acre family estate. Each vineyard plot features distinct soil types: Monastrell thrives in grey soil, while Tempranillo grows in clay, Syrah in clay-limestone, and Merlot in limestone. The winery's design harmonizes with the landscape, focusing on producing high-quality wines that reflect the unique terroir.

Wine Tasting and Tours at Bodega Balcona

As the first winery in Bullas to offer guided tours, Bodega Balcona has been dedicated to enotourism since 1999. Visitors can enjoy the serene Valle Del Aceniche, surrounded by the aromas of pine, fennel, and rosemary. Tours begin in the historic Monastrell vineyards, where guests learn about the area's soil, climate, and grape varieties. This experience highlights the unique characteristics that contribute to the wines' freshness, tannins, and color. In the winery, guests gain insights into the winemaking process, culminating in a tasting session where the wines express the distinct soils and microclimate of Aceniche. Visitors also have the option to purchase their favorite wines to take home.

What a beautiful place, and how interesting the world of wine is. Especially when Kiko explains everything so well. Delicious wines and a very beautiful family history. Highly recommended.

The Aceniche Valley is home to the La Balcona winery. A spectacular enclave surrounded by mountains and vineyards. I was there for a moonlit dinner in the middle of the vineyards, with music in the background. An experience we will repeat.

A very cool visit, entering the land where Murcian wine is born, and then tasting four wines with very suitable snacks. We missed a bit more explanation about the vines and walks through the vineyards, but overall, it was very good and highly recommended. In one of the photos, you can see how this wine was blessed for this Christmas. Could it have come from the wine horses? What a party.

A highly recommended visit. Pepa welcomed us warmly and informed us about the entire winemaking process. After visiting the vineyards in an idyllic setting, he tasted four wines for us with matching wines. A spectacle of local products and 100% authentic wines. Thank you, Pepa!

This is passion alive. We met Josephina “Pepa” in the winery and it was an extraordinary experience. She lives the passion for her wines. All organic - all fermented spontaneously - no mainstream - cannot tell how much we enjoyed. Load down google maps before you go - no coverage. And make sure to have enough cash along … no card payment … due to mention … no coverage! If you are around and want to dive into off- mainstream- winemaking - this is what I recommend 🤗 Looking forward to come back

Small family winery with organic wines, located in a beautiful valley surrounded by pine forests. We tried 4 wines. To highlight the rosé, it is usually a weaker wine, but this one surprised with its aroma, strong color and body. Its name is Mabal. They were accompanied by some delicious local products. The flatbread and the cheese with wine, the best. They were able to convey to us the passion for making the wines of this winery. A plus point for the DOP Bullas.
