Cosme Palacio took over Bodegas Palacio in 1894
Bodegas Palacio is located at the base of Laguardia, between the course of the Ebro and Sierra de Cantabria. Cosme Palacio took charge of the family winery in 1894 and has kept the dynamism and spirit of the family business alive since then. The winery is known for the combination of modern innovative techniques with traditional beliefs and ideas. The winery is a perfect example of balance, expression of terroir, and harmony with nature and the beautiful surroundings.
Proper Winemaking Techniques at the Winery
The main treasure of the estate lies in the vineyards, which are protected by the strong rocks of the Sierra Cantabria Mountains. The vines are present at a high altitude with clay-chalky soils and a microclimate that has a Mediterranean and Atlantic influence. The natural conditions are perfect here for the growth of Tempranillo and Viura vines. These grapes are used for the production of red, white, and sparkling wines. In the winery, the exhaustive grape selection is made, and each parcel is vinified separately. Wines are aged in French oak barrels and undergo extended maceration.
Sustainability at the Winery
The winery respects the environment, climatic changes, and good business practices. It is a part of the ACCIONA group that has a philosophy of sustainable development, balance in nature, and economic progress of the entire region. The company is also partners with the Wineries for Climate Protection project. Feel free to visit the winery in the heart of Rioja Alavesa and feel the passion of their wines.
