Bodega El Fabulista: A Winery with a Rich History

Among the over 300 underground wineries nestled within the medieval walls of Laguardia, Bodega El Fabulista stands out as one of the largest and most unique. Located beneath the historic Samaniego palace, this winery features 17th-century decor that adds to its charm. Notably, it is the birthplace of the renowned fabulist Félix María de Samaniego. Situated seven meters below street level, four distinct cellars continue the traditional winemaking process that defines El Fabulista. This winery is not only one of the most impressive in Laguardia but also one of the few still producing wine using the traditional carbonic maceration method.

Bodega El Fabulista crafts five distinct wines from the Rioja Alavesa region, each made with meticulous care to please even the most discerning palates. The red wines are produced using the traditional carbonic maceration technique, which enhances their flavor profile. The unique conditions of Rioja Alavesa contribute to the creation of exceptional wines, including whites, young reds, and those aged in American and/or French oak barrels.
