Vines with a Century of Tradition at Bodegas Tritium

Bodegas Tritium is home to vineyards that have thrived for over 100 years, planted in nutrient-rich soils of calcareous clay, ferrous clay, and alluvial clay. These ideal conditions, combined with a protective microclimate, allow the vines to flourish, ensuring optimal grape production. Each wine produced here showcases unique characteristics influenced by the grape varieties and cultivation techniques used, creating a distinct personality while maintaining a recognizable identity. The estate's commitment to crafting small batches of exceptional wines remains steadfast, honoring the vision set forth in the early 1900s.

A 15th Century Cellar and Its Unique Wines

The winery features a beautifully restored 15th-century cellar located in the historic town of Cenicero. This remarkable space includes a stone lake of desillería, a tino, and a trujal, along with a draft that extends 10 meters deep and 30 meters long. The renovation has preserved the cellar's historical charm while enhancing its functionality. The first phase of restoration has been completed, focusing on removing deteriorated sections. The next phase aims to fully reconstruct the winery, creating a wine tourism center while also facilitating the production, aging, and bottling of Viñas Viejas de Tritium reds. Each wine is crafted with care, reflecting a commitment to natural and biodynamic practices.

Very inconspicuous from the outside, but very quaint on the inside. When you walk through the door you are surprised. The boss told us a lot about the wines and the bodega (despite our minimal Spanish knowledge) and drank wine with us. It was very interesting and familiar. The wines and the oil were excellent. It was an all-round successful visit and we will remember it for a long time.

Charming little cellar that is worth the detour. Very warm welcome. Good value for money in terms of wines.

We loved the visit! We enjoyed the treatment of Francisco, the whole explanation of the winery, splendid wine tasting. His vocation, the project and his concern to differentiate himself from the rest of the wineries are highly valued. You have to experience it! Thank you for your time! 🙏

It has been an incredible experience. I have never been a wine drinker, but I have discovered a new world with its own wines. It is a family winery and it shows in the treatment received, both by Javier, and by the girl who gave us the guide (very well explained), as well as by “El Largo”, good wine and better person 😜

We had an incredible experience visiting Tritium, this small 14th century winery in Cenicero. As soon as you arrive, Fran, one of the owners, welcomes you with a glass of wine. He doesn't ask you what you want, he simply gives you the glass as a welcome and starts talking to you about the winery, about his beginnings as a child with his father in the cultivation of vines and winemaking, placing you perfectly within the historical setting of Rioja, a Wikipedia, but exuding enthusiasm and an illusion that penetrates…. Fran transmits all his enthusiasm and his deep love for wine and his 14th century winery. He explained to us in great detail not only the cultivation and production process but also shared his vast knowledge about the different types of grapes and wines they produce, each with an anecdote behind it. Each wine has its own personality, but they all share an exceptional quality. With each sip you appreciate the care and respect for the grape, preserving the essence of the strain. Their carefully tended, century-old vines give rise to limited production wines, each with its own personality and character. Here, they do not seek mass production, but excellence, respecting the essence of the grape and exploring unique production methods. What makes this winery even more unique is its innovative spirit. They surprised us with wines aged in amphorae, where the purity of the grape is expressed in an exceptional way, and with wines that have matured under the sea, achieving a surprising evolution in their flavour and texture. Each glass is a reflection of the enthusiasm, effort and knowledge with which they work, resulting in wines of unparalleled quality. This winery is a true treasure for wine lovers, where tradition and innovation combine to offer unique experiences. A must-see place in Rioja for those seeking authenticity and emotion in every sip!

Unique winery that is definitely worth a visit. The families who run it have found the perfect balance between tradition and innovation, which is reflected in their wines and facilities (the design by Francesc Rifé deserves a mention of its own). Javier, who showed the winery to our friend group, was great in explaining the history of wine in the region and the different aspects of wine tasting. We will be back 100%!
