A Legacy of Quality Winemaking Since 1977
About Cabrita Wines
Cabrita Wines is a cherished family business established in 1977 by José Manuel Cabrita, who inherited the Quinta da Vinha estate from his father. In 2000, José decided to rejuvenate the vineyard by planting new grape varieties and collaborating with renowned winemakers António Maçanita, Cláudia Favinha, and Joana Maçanita. This partnership led to the official launch of Cabrita Wines in 2007, with a focus on showcasing the unique Portuguese and native grape varieties of the Algarve region across 16 hectares of vineyards.
Vineyard Diversity
The estate features three distinct vineyards, each with unique soil compositions that contribute to the complexity of the wines. The vineyards include clay-limestone soils with sandy components, stony limestone soils, and high clay content typical of the Algarve mountains. Protected by the Serra de Monchique from northern winds and influenced by Atlantic breezes, the vineyards benefit from a balanced climate that enhances the quality of the grapes.
Crafting Exceptional Wines
Cabrita Wines aims to highlight the potential of each grape variety in their blends. The classic range includes a white, rosé, and red wine, all crafted for exceptional gastronomic pairing and quality. The winery also produces monovarietal wines to showcase native grapes, such as the Negra Mole, a historic variety exclusive to the Algarve. Once at risk of being forgotten, Negra Mole is now celebrated as the "Queen Grape of the Algarve." Limited-edition Cabrita reserva wines are crafted from carefully selected grapes, aged in barrels and bottles to achieve elegance and depth.
