A Rich Historical Legacy

The Cafaggio Estate boasts a fascinating history that dates back to 1408, originally known as ‘Cahago,’ which translates to ‘enclosed, cultivated field.’ This estate has seen many owners throughout the centuries, including the Benedictine monks of Siena in the late 15th century and the renowned Niccolini family from Florence. By the end of the modern age, the estate was acquired by the Florentine Hospital of Santa Maria Nuova, which maintained its agricultural roots, producing a variety of goods, including wine and olive oil.

A Bright Future for Cafaggio Winery

In the 19th century, the estate came under the ownership of the Boddi family. By the late 1960s, the Farkas family purchased the property, which had fallen into disrepair. They undertook significant renovations, revitalizing the wine cellars and replanting the vineyards and olive groves. In 2014, Cafaggio became part of ISA S.p.A. (Istituto Atesino di Sviluppo S.p.A.), a financial services holding company based in Trento.

The Cafaggio Estate Today

Covering approximately 60 hectares, Villa Cafaggio features 30 hectares of specialized vineyards and around 10 hectares of olive groves, with the remainder dedicated to woodland. Located in the charming hamlet of Greve in Chianti, in Panzano, the estate is situated in the renowned ‘Conca d’Oro’ (Golden Basin), celebrated as one of the finest regions for producing Chianti Classico wines.
