A Tuscany Winery on the Crossroads of Trade Routes and

A Tuscany Winery with the Diverse History

The estate located on the crossroads of the Middle Ages trade routes between Rome and Northern Italy was originally a hospital and, simply, a shelter for travelers looking for the rest and recovery. Since 1500 it was owned by many noble Sienese and Florentine families which left their historical marks on the estate’s architecture: fresco, cellar, walls, ceilings, and granary. In 1870 it was bought by the ancestor of the current owners, a Florentine politician, Francesco Guicciardini. Later on, his daughter Marcella with her husband Massimiliano Majnoni expanded the production facilities and launched the winery.

The Fabulous Vineyards of Fattoria Majnoni Guicciardini

Even though, the vineyards account for less than 15% of the arable land, more than half of the time in the field is dedicated to cultivation and taking care after vines. Since the beginning of the 21st century, only organic fertilizers and practices are used in the vine growing in order to ensure the highest potential of the grapes characteristics. The family grows predominantly local varieties such as Sangiovese, Malvasia Nera, Foglia Tonda, Abrustine, and Pugnitello. The only international variety grown here is classical Chardonay.

Selective Harvest

In this winery, the family harvests grapes by hand for several reasons. First, to select only the health grapes. Second, to collect grapes in many phases. At the first phase, the grapes are harvested for the the production of simple wines. Later, the grapes with high ageing potential are harvested to produce honourable Chianti and Chianti Riserva.
