Welcome to Cantina Poggio Borgoni
A family-owned Tuscan winery in the heart of Chianti Classico

We are proud to introduce Cantina Poggio Borgoni, our family-run winery nestled in the heart of the Chianti Classico region, where we cultivate approximately 5 hectares of meticulously cared-for vineyards.

Our estate has deep historical roots, originating from lands once owned by the Bishops of Florence and later enriched by the noble Borromeo family, who arrived from Milan in the 16th century. This union between two great legacies of the Florentine Renaissance fostered a flourishing of both agriculture and art in the region.

Today, the tradition of winemaking continues under the guidance of Paolo Salvini, who chose to reinvest in the family’s historic land in San Casciano. Recognizing the exceptional terroir, he led an ambitious redevelopment of the vineyards, selecting the ideal Sangiovese clone—Chianti Classico’s emblematic varietal—and introducing terraces to optimize sun exposure and grape quality. Today, our vineyards are primarily planted with Sangiovese, along with a smaller parcel of Merlot.

Beyond the vineyard, we have invested in a modern yet intimate winery located in the heart of our hamlet. Here, winemaking is carried out in 35, 50, and 100 HL cement fermentation tanks, with aging taking place in a dedicated barrique room adjacent to the fermentation space. Our philosophy has always centered on respecting the land, embracing sustainable agriculture and manual work in the vineyard—from pruning to harvest—to ensure the utmost care in every step.

At Poggio Borgoni, we are committed to quality and continuity. Each year, we strive to produce wines of distinction, beginning with meticulous grape selection both before and after harvest. We age our wines one year longer than required by Chianti Classico regulations, ensuring each vintage is as refined, balanced, and expressive as possible before it reaches your table.

Completing the experience is our Tuscan-style relais, offering 9 elegant suites, a panoramic swimming pool overlooking the vineyards, and Osteria Il Poggio, our charming tavern. Guests can indulge in the flavors of traditional Tuscan cuisine, paired with our estate wines and a curated selection of fine Italian labels.

Cantina Poggio Borgoni is more than a winery—it's a place where history, nature, and passion come together to offer an unforgettable Tuscan experience.

We stayed here and dined at the restaurant 2 of 3 nights ordering completely different dishes each time. Everything was good, you can’t go wrong. There is a mix of traditional Tuscan, a couple non-Tuscan classics, and some more fun options not seen in some of the other high-tourist-traffic Tuscan restaurants nearby. Claudia was a fantastic server/host and we actually ran into her on their off night at the other best restaurant in the area. The wines are all very nice - a young IGT, a non-oaked Chianti and lightly oaky riserva 1 yr in the barriques- and we intend to ship a case home.

BORROMEO 2016 – POGGIO BORGONI The ancient Poggio Borgoni winery is located in the heart of Chianti Classico, on the hills of the Pesa River and precisely in San Casciano in Val di Pesa, one of the Italian areas historically most suited to viticulture. Alongside the undisputed protagonist Sangiovese, the Merlot vine is grown which enters the assembly in all three wines produced, between alberese mixed with clay. Borromeo 2017 Chianti Classico Riserva 🍇 Sangiovese 90% and Merlot 10%. 👨‍🌾Alcoholic and malolactic fermentation in cement tanks. 24 months in French oak barriques. 👀Intense ruby red. 👃It opens with rose and cherry, iris and plum, cedar and vanilla; hints of aromatic herbs and spices; earthy line of dry leaves and truffle. 👅Sip of good structure, warm and soft, with integrated and smoothed tannins. Long finish of undergrowth. 🍳Pappardelle with wild boar or Florentine steak.
