Giacomo Montresor: A Legacy of Excellence in the Heart of Verona

Officially founded in 1892 , the Giacomo Montresor winery is a cornerstone of Veronese winemaking and the custodian of a family tradition rooted in the 17th century. Strategically located at the gateway to Valpolicella , the company is today a global symbol of dedication to winemaking, combining respect for the past with a cutting-edge production vision.

The Art of Tradition and the Satin Icon

The winery's history is marked by pioneering intuitions that have redefined the aesthetics of Italian wine worldwide. One example is the iconic 1921 Satinata bottle : designed to protect the quality of the product during long ocean crossings, its frosted surface and shape reminiscent of the ancient flask have made it a symbol of timeless elegance and prestige. This attention to detail is reflected in every stage of production, from the vineyard to the bottle, preserving an identity that has made Montresor a protagonist at the most important international exhibitions since 1873.

Unique Terroir and Winemaking Mastery

The superior quality of Montresor wines stems from the perfect harmony between climate, soil, and native grape varieties. The vineyards thrive on a mosaic of alluvial, volcanic, and calcareous soils, which give the wines unique sensory characteristics. The heart of the production is the great reds of Valpolicella, led by the queen variety, Corvina , and the revival of rare varietals such as Oseleta . Production excellence finds its highest expression in the art of appassimento , a masterful technique that concentrates aromas and sugars through controlled dehydration, giving rise to distinctive wines such as Amarone.

An Immersive Sensory Experience

Today, the winery welcomes enthusiasts on an exhibition that transforms the visit into an educational and sensory journey. From ancient relics of rural civilization and the secrets of the "married vine," to scientific soil analyses and the final immersive olfactory experience, every element is designed to bring to life the profound soul of the terroir. The tour culminates in the historic barrel cellar and modern wine shop, where a guided tasting allows you to perceive the essence of a land that, for centuries, has indelibly marked the lives of its people.

The wine tour with tasting was absolutely fantastic. Not just the usual run-of-the-mill explanations, but lots of fascinating facts about the Valpolicella region. The refreshments were also great, with local delicacies.

The wine tasting at Cantine Giacomo Montresor was a real highlight. We received a very warm welcome and were given a thorough and unobtrusive tour of the selection. We were able to taste all the wines we wanted and immediately bought our favorites to take home :-) HIGHLY recommended.

Well worth a visit. Only 25 mins by local bus from city centre. Very informative tour. The smell tests were fun and something we hadn't seen before on wine tours.

This wine tour was amazing and in my opinion a must try if you're looking for a bang for your buck. It was such an immersive experience! Our tour guide was extremely knowledgeable going in depth of the historic side of wine making and the history of one of the oldest wineries in Verona. If you're a history buff definitely book this tour!! Absolutely loved it!

We visited several wineries in the Valpolicella region. The first was Montresor Wines. This winery is unique, as it has a Wine Museum where you can see and learn a great deal about viticulture and winemaking, especially Amarone, the undisputed king of this region. They offer a wide selection of wines and expert service. I highly recommend them.

We are huge fans of Valpolicella. The tour was like a visit to Mecca. The friendly and knowledgeable sommelier took his time and answered all our questions. The selection of cheeses and breads was also excellent. The wine was more expensive on-site than online, so we didn't buy anything.
