A Historic Winery with 200,000 Bottles of Vintage Wines in Ancient Caves
Castelli Romani: Home of Exceptional Italian Wines
Located just a few miles from Rome, Casal Pilozzo sits gracefully on a hillside in the picturesque municipality of Monte Porzio Catone. This historic estate is one of the oldest vineyards in the Castelli Romani region, renowned for producing exceptional Italian wines under DOC, DOCG, and IGP classifications. In addition to its fine wines, the winery also crafts artisanal grappas and high-quality extra virgin olive oil.
A Cellar Steeped in History
Casal Pilozzo is built on the remnants of an ancient structure that once housed the sister and niece of Roman Emperor Trajan. The Pulcini family, current owners of the winery, have skillfully renovated the cellar, which is carved into a prehistoric cave. This unique space leads to a spacious room where wines age and mature, benefiting from the natural conditions of the cave.
Rich Volcanic Soils of Lazio
Casal Pilozzo is celebrated for its commitment to organic grape farming in the Lazio region. The estate cultivates a diverse range of grape varieties, including Malvasia Puntinata, Grechetto, and Chardonnay for white wines, and Pinot Noir, Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, Syrah, and Merlot for reds. The Pulcini family oversees every aspect of production, ensuring the highest quality from grape to bottle.
Surrounded by 13 hectares of volcanic vineyards and a beautifully landscaped park, the Casal Pilozzo farmhouse is a highlight for visitors. It offers a perfect setting to enjoy memorable moments and taste some of the finest vintages the region has to offer.
