A Prestigious Winery in the Land of Chianti

Castello di Meleto is nestled in the picturesque Gaiole area of Chianti, surrounded by 1,600 hectares of stunning landscapes. This historic castle, once home to the Benedictine monks of Badia a Coltibuono, has a rich heritage that dates back to the 11th century. Today, Castello di Meleto beautifully blends tradition with modernity, serving as a true representation of the Chianti Classico region and its renowned winery.

The Unique Vineyards of Chianti Classico

Situated in the heart of Chianti Classico, the estate's vineyards range in altitude from 350 to 600 meters, with the Massellone stream flowing through. This elevation creates a significant temperature difference between day and night, which is essential for preserving the freshness and acidity of the grapes while enhancing their aromatic profiles. The vineyards cultivate a variety of grapes, including Sangiovese, Merlot, Malvasia Nera, and Vermentino, among others. The land is thoughtfully divided into five macro zones—Meleto, San Piero, Poggiarso, and Moci—each reflecting the unique climate, slope, and soil composition that contribute to the long-standing viniculture tradition.

Elegance in Every Bottle

Currently owned by Viticola Toscana, Castello di Meleto boasts 1,600 shareholders who are passionate about local wines. The winery is known for producing elegant and structured wines, complemented by high-quality extra virgin olive oil and Cinta Senese pork. The wines are characterized by their finesse and mineral flavors, a result of the rocky soil and altitude. Regardless of the grape variety, the estate prioritizes consistent quality, ensuring that each bottle reflects the essence of Chianti.

Beautiful trompe l'oeil frescoes in the castle. Ancient theater. Beautiful view from the garden. Admission is a bit too expensive at 15 EUR.

Attention! On Google Maps, this place indicates a vineyard, a place of wine production. Wines can be tasted and purchased at a nearby castle. Despite the peak of the grape harvest season, one of the staff took the time for a quick chat and showed the way to the castle.

We did a tasting with a visit. The boy Gabriele was fantastic, even though he had pain in his ankle due to a sprain, he showed us the castle in detail and gave us a very good tasting. Thank you!!!

We had a great winery and castle tour and tasting! Absolutely amazing scenery and views. 3 tastings of white wine paired with bread and olive oil for €35 per person

I had the pleasure of staying at Castello di Meleto in July 2022 for a wedding weekend, and it was a wonderful experience. The picturesque property boasts beautiful gardens that provide a stunning backdrop for events. The charming castle itself exudes a timeless elegance, and the food and wine were exquisite. We stayed in a one bedroom apartment which was very spacious and comfortable, the only fault was the hairdryer wasn’t great, so I’d suggest bringing your own. Castello di Meleto is a perfect blend of historic charm and modern luxury, making it an ideal destination for special occasions.
