A Historic Fortress Transformed into a Winery

Perched on the scenic slopes of Montagnola, Castello Poggiarello is a historic fortress located in the picturesque Val di Merse Valley, just a short drive from the renowned Siena wine region in Tuscany. Surrounded by breathtaking landscapes, this estate specializes in producing premium organic red and rosé wines, alongside flourishing peach groves and traditional Italian vegetable gardens. Each family member plays a vital role in the winemaking process, ensuring a personal touch in every bottle.

Beautiful Vineyards at Castello Poggiarello

With a commitment to sustainability, the estate cultivates a diverse range of grapes across its 12-hectare vineyards, including Merlot, Petit Verdot, Cabernet Sauvignon, and Cabernet Franc. These grapes are grown organically and hand-harvested, honoring the traditions of classic viticulture. The wine cellar features a blend of modern innovations and time-honored techniques, utilizing various sizes of wooden barriques and barrels, some dating back 100 years, for aging and refining the wines.

Host Memorable Events in a Unique Setting

Castello Poggiarello offers a charming venue for small private events, including birthdays, weddings, and corporate meetings. A large rectangular table provides an ideal setting for wine tastings and dining experiences. Guests can also gather in the garden, which boasts stunning views of the Tuscan countryside. The estate features a medieval tower and a swimming pool surrounded by lush lawns and trees, complete with a hydro-massage facility for a relaxing retreat.

My partner and I purchased a visit to the wine cellars + tasting + 4-course lunch at the castle through Vinbacco. Sveva, the landlady, led us on a very interesting visit and a delicious lunch with tasting. It was a wonderful experience, she was incredibly kind.

We spent our anniversary here. From the afternoon we had a guided tour of the building with Sveva and Elena, who were very kind, visiting both the outside part, the chapel and the cellar. We had a pleasant tasting of their wines and then had a candlelit dinner in their tavern/living room. Zero km food prepared by the expert hands of Sveva. Highly recommended

My boyfriend and I went to this place to do a wine tasting. The place is very beautiful and the owner is really very kind and nice. He took us on a tour of the entire property and put all his heart into his story. Afterwards we had a delicious lunch in the gun room, prepared exclusively for us. Also the wines he made us taste were really exquisite. Congratulations, we will definitely not be coming back.

We visited this tried and tested house for a tasting dinner via Vinbacco. As it was already late, we were unfortunately unable to visit the garden and the chapel, but what we saw already thrilled us! Not to mention the wine, excellent, the dinner made by Sveva's hands, wonderful! Like her, a great woman, polite, friendly, sweet... she makes you feel at home ♡
