Generations of Expertise at Carreau Winery
Since the mid-16th century, the Carreau winery has been a family tradition in Celles-Sur-Ources. Nestled in the heart of the Cote des Bar, the southernmost region of the Champagne vineyard, Lionel Carreau and his daughter Oriane continue to uphold their family's legacy of winemaking.
Heritage Meets Innovation in the Vineyards
The Carreau family cultivates 6 hectares of vineyards, growing three grape varieties: Pinot Noir, Chardonnay, and Pinot Blanc. Each grape is hand-harvested, reflecting the family's commitment to quality. The Chardonnay, a newer addition, is a rare find in the region and complements the other varieties beautifully. Pinot Noir, the traditional favorite, and Pinot Blanc, a cherished legacy from Lionel’s grandparents, add unique character to their champagnes.
Commitment to Sustainability
Respect for nature is at the core of the Carreau family's practices. They utilize organic compost and fertilizers while minimizing chemical use in their vineyards. The clay-limestone soil of the region supports even the rarest grape varieties. With a focus on sustainable and responsible viticulture, this small winery produces around 20,000 bottles of champagne each year, showcasing their dedication to both quality and the environment.
