Crafting Traditional Champagnes Since 1884 with HEV Certification
Heritage and Tradition in the Heart of Champagne
Champagne Paul Berthelot has been a cornerstone of the Champagne region since 1884, nestled in the picturesque village of Dizy, near Epernay. For five generations, the Berthelot family has upheld the winemaking traditions established by founder Emile Berthelot. Paul Berthelot managed the estate from 1940 to 2000, with Jacques joining the family business in 1960 to enhance vineyard management. Today, Arnauld Berthelot, Paul’s grandson, oversees winemaking, while his wife, Valerie, handles sales and marketing. Their commitment to quality and sustainability is evident, as the winery has held a High Environmental Value (HEV) certification since February 2012, reflecting their dedication to organic practices and biodiversity.
Vineyard Practices and Quality Assurance
The estate spans 16 hectares of Premier Cru and Grand Cru vineyards located between Avenay and Dizy, primarily planted with Chardonnay and Pinot Noir. The Berthelot family prioritizes the health of their vines, ensuring that each grape receives the necessary care and attention. They employ only essential physiological treatments at optimal times, allowing the grapes to flourish naturally. The result is a range of traditional champagnes that boast vibrant flavors and aromas, making them a favorite among wine enthusiasts. Many of their vintages are featured in top hotels and restaurants, a testament to the exceptional quality of their champagnes.
