The Rich History of Chateau Chambert

Chateau Chambert boasts a remarkable history that spans over 2000 years, deeply intertwined with the legacy of Cahors Malbec. Historical records trace its origins back to the 10th century, showcasing its evolution through various ownerships and significant events. While the estate once covered 300 hectares, it now encompasses 65 hectares under the stewardship of Philippe Lejeune. A modern facility, featuring a VIP reception area, a biodynamic research lab, and a professional kitchen, has been thoughtfully integrated into the landscape, enhancing the visitor experience.

Vineyards of Chambert

Situated at an elevation of 300 meters, Chateau Chambert overlooks the picturesque Lot valley from a limestone plateau in southern Quercy, located 100 kilometers north of Toulouse and 35 kilometers west of Cahors. The estate is surrounded by high-altitude vineyards, providing a unique isolation from urban influences. The vineyard's advantageous exposure ensures ample sunlight, while the interplay of continental and maritime air currents helps to dissipate morning mist. These natural conditions foster a pesticide-free environment, which is essential for organic farming practices.

Malbec of Cahors

The Cahors wine region is renowned for its elevated terrain, which contributes to a cooler climate ideal for grape cultivation. The soil composition varies across the region, typically consisting of schist, limestone, and clay. Malbec, accounting for 80% of the vineyards at Chambert, is the star grape variety here. This grape requires meticulous care and yields wines that are both fruity and robust, reflecting the unique terroir of Cahors.

It was a very enriching and enjoyable visit. The explanations were very clear. The master's student guide was very pleasant and enriched us. We were on vacation and we didn't really know what to expect. We left delighted to have been able to visit a biodynamic vineyard that respects its vines and we look forward to receiving our order of wines following the tasting on site. Thank you very much.

Very warm welcome in this wine estate. The tasting was pleasant and interesting. We continued with a small glass of wine and a board to share in the bar next door. A nice place with rustic decoration and a magnificent view of the vineyards. We would like to come back to spend a night in the hotel which will open soon. 🧀🍷

One of our favourite wine tour & tasting experiences! We were a large group & Vincent held everyones attention with his passion & knowledge about Chambert wines. A great ambassador for the vineyard & castle. Tasted 6 wines - that’s a first. Fabulous tour, relaxed & not rushed so we could enjoy the terrace. Highly recommend

Visited three times over the course of the two weeks we spent in the Lot. Twice to the Everest for lunch, which was delicious, in tandem with the beautiful views, as well as for a wine tour and drinks on the patio by the Holodeck, the views from which are simply stunning - the tranquillity was priceless. A big thanks to all the team in the Everest and the wine bar for the great service. The highlight was what can only be described as one of the best family experiences of our lives, when we thoroughly enjoyed the Petit Holodeck menu on the penultimate night of our holiday. The food was extraordinary - a selection of dishes full of imagination, textures, flavours, love and attention. Watching the chefs at work in the open kitchen was part of the whole experience, along with the superb service throughout - we were really looked after, with details of each course and wine. A big plus was the thought that had gone in to providing interesting accompanying drinks for the driver in our group - it really did make a difference. Overall, we can't recommend visiting Château Chambert enough - a range of things to experience for all the family (house chips for the kids at the Everest for one). We look forward to the completion of the hotel, as we definitely plan to return. Thank you to all the team.

Enjoyed the hospitality of the ladies who let us taste in the tasting room and wine bar at lunchtime. We were travelling with small children and checked beforehand whether this would not be a nuisance to other guests, but were warmly welcomed. It is ideal that there is a small play area in the tasting room so that we can taste all the wines in peace. Great wines, perfectly to our taste. Several wines are also award winners, so also completely to the taste of others. We bought several cases and individual bottles and will enjoy them at home in the Netherlands.

Went for a wine tasting. Vincent was fantastic. Very knowledgeable and generous with his time. As we arrived close to closing time he even patiently stayed late to allow us finishing our tasting. Highly recommended.
