The Ancient History of Château Guilhem
Château Guilhem, in the same family for six generations, is located in the heart of the village of Malviès near Carcassonne, facing the Pyrenees. Vineyards have always surrounded it. It was built in the eighteenth century in Directoire style on the site of a Gallo Roman city. Bertrand Gourdou took over the family estate in 2004, succeeding his mother, Brigitte Gourdou-Guilhem. Today, Bertrand, with his various wine experiences in France and abroad, produces quality wines that guarantee the expression of the terroir. The main focus of Château Guilhem is to produce great wines and offer unique blends with Languedoc-Roussillon origin.
The Great Terroir of Château Guilhem
Since 2013, they are growing vines in organic agriculture for are greater respect of their terroir. Château Guilhem extends over more than 35 hectares of clay and limestone south-facing slopes on the Malepère massif, where grape varieties such as Merlot, Cabernet Franc and Cabernet Sauvignon, Malbec, Chardonnay, and Sauvignon Blanc flourish. The altitude of 250-400 meters above sea level, close to the chain of the Pyrenees, brings the wines a mineral and powerful character with a little bit of acidity.
