A Family-Owned Winery Committed to Organic Viticulture in Malviès
The Rich Heritage of Château Guilhem
Château Guilhem has been a cherished family estate for six generations, nestled in the picturesque village of Malviès, near Carcassonne and the majestic Pyrenees. This winery, established in the 18th century in the elegant Directoire style, stands on the grounds of an ancient Gallo-Roman city. In 2004, Bertrand Gourdou took the reins from his mother, Brigitte Gourdou-Guilhem. With extensive wine experience both in France and internationally, Bertrand focuses on crafting exceptional wines that reflect the unique terroir of the region. Château Guilhem is dedicated to producing high-quality wines and distinctive blends that showcase the essence of Languedoc-Roussillon.
The Unique Terroir of Château Guilhem
Since 2013, Château Guilhem has embraced organic farming practices to honor its terroir. The estate spans over 35 hectares of clay and limestone slopes facing south on the Malepère massif. Here, grape varieties such as Merlot, Cabernet Franc, Cabernet Sauvignon, Malbec, Chardonnay, and Sauvignon Blanc thrive. The vineyard's altitude of 250-400 meters above sea level, close to the Pyrenees, imparts a mineral character and a touch of acidity to the wines, enhancing their complexity.
