A Family Legacy in the Heart of Roussillon
Preserving Winemaking Heritage
Mas Alart is a cherished family-owned winery nestled between Perpignan and the Mediterranean Sea. Established in the late 19th century by François Alart, this winery has been a cornerstone of the Alart family's winemaking tradition for over a century. Today, the descendants of François continue to honor their ancestors' artisan spirit, producing exceptional wines that reflect the unique terroir of the region.
Spanning 20 hectares, the estate features a complex of buildings designed to streamline winemaking processes. Over the past 30 years, the vineyard has expanded its grape varieties from four to thirteen, showcasing a diverse selection:
- **White Grapes:** Muscat à Petits Grains, Muscat d’Alexandrie, Maccabeu, Grenache Blanc, Roussane, Malvoisie, and Viognier
- **Red Grapes:** Syrah, Grenache Noir, Mourvèdre, Merlot, Marselan, and Cabernet Sauvignon
Unique Terroir
The vineyard's terroir is characterized by Pliocene terraces with clay-sandy soils rich in quartz pebbles. The clay retains moisture, ensuring the vines stay hydrated in Roussillon's dry climate, while the sandy soil promotes drainage, preventing water accumulation. The pebbles absorb heat, aiding in the ripening of the grapes, which contributes to the wines' distinctive flavors.
Distinctive Wines
Mas Alart produces 11 unique cuvées, each reflecting the winery's shared characteristics: stony terraces, a hot and dry climate, and a commitment to family winemaking traditions. These wines offer a taste of the region's rich heritage and the Alart family's dedication to quality.
