Passion for Wine in a Picturesque Setting

Château Monestier La Tour, beautifully revived in 1998 and renovated in 2012, is nestled in the tranquil landscape of Périgord, within the Bergerac region of South West France. The Scheufele family, who took ownership in 2012, aims to create wines that honor nature and showcase the unique terroir. Spanning 30 hectares, the vineyard produces organic and biodynamic wines, guided by the expertise of renowned oenologist Stéphane Derenoncourt.

Committed to preserving the biodiversity and natural balance of the environment at Château Monestier La Tour.

A Rich Heritage Reflected in Every Bottle

With a viticultural history dating back to 1792, this estate has been cherished by various noble French families. After ownership changes involving proprietors from New Zealand and the Netherlands, the Scheufele family restored the chateau to its former glory. The vineyard features 17 hectares dedicated to red grapes, including 62% Merlot, 30% Cabernet Franc, 5% Cabernet Sauvignon, and 2% Malbec. The remaining 12.5 hectares are planted with 61% Semillon, 30% Sauvignon Blanc, and 9% Muscadelle, producing both dry and sweet white wines.

Commitment to Organic Practices

In 2017, the vineyard achieved organic certification after a three-year transition. The goal is to minimize intervention and maintain a self-sustaining ecosystem. To support this, viticulturists utilize nine natural preparations, numbered 500 to 508, which enhance soil health and promote vibrant plant life.

Wine tasting tour

This tour is cheaper than some but we learned so much from our lovely tour guide . We saw the gardens , the wine making rooms and then tasted some great wines . You’ll get to understand a bit about the biodynamic methods they use to produce the wine and maybe drink your next glass of wine with a little more respect and understanding!! The wine prices are also better than many other makers should you wish to purchase any afterwards .

THANK YOU
