They are internationally-famous since the 20th century, but Villa Calcinaia’s history dates back to the 16th century. For the last 50 years, the family has made many investments to improve their winemaking technology so as to make the best wines that represent the gifted terroir and rich traditions of the region. Villa Calcinaia’s wines are a true mirror of the company’s pride and history.
Organic viticulture
Villa Calcinaia is on the left bank of Greve River and has calcareous soil of Eocene origin. The sea level, sunlight exposure, and other climatic conditions are ideal for the growth and cultivation of grapes. They started organic farming in 2000, starting with the olive groves and then in the vineyards. The estate has historic vines and olive trees dating back to the 19th century. Organic farming helps to preserve the health of the vines and protect the natural environment of the region.
