A Biodynamic Winery Perched on Gentle Slopes Covered with Scree
Nestled on a hill, lay bare to the mistral winds, Domaine des Pentelines is an organic winery located in the southern AOC Côtes-du-Rhône, a short drive away from beautiful Avignon, near the Châteauneuf-du-Pape wine region. The winery consists of a guest house, a green cocoon amid the vines in the center of several touristic highlights. The estate extends over 26 hectares of adjoining vineyards in a single stretch of land.
Domaine des Pentelines with a Long Winemaking History
For many generations, the Hardy family owned and operated the winery. After 80 years of sheer commitment towards vineyards, they sold the winery to the Kandler family. The Kandlers built everything from scratch – established a new winery, constructed a new cellar, and replanted the old vineyards. The Kandler family also has excellent historical roots in wine production. They already own two wineries in the Languedoc AOP and Minervois. Today, Domaine des Pentelines is a 100% organic winery with AB certification (Agriculture Biologique).
Following Traditional Organic Methods for Vine Cultivation
Most of the vineyards are replanted by the Kandler family, while a few vine plants are 40 years old. The company grows a wide range of grapes on 26 hectares, including Grenache, Syrah, Mourvèdre, and Carignan. The winery team also cultivates Cinsaut, Marselan, Counoise, Marsanne, Roussanne, UGNI Blanc, and Clairette with organic methods on some plots. The harvest is also carried out manually.
