A Historic Winery Rooted in the Monastic Tradition of Burgundy
Château de Messey – A Historic Romanesque Fortress
Located in the picturesque Ozenay appellation of Burgundy, Château de Messey is a remarkable fortress that has transformed into a winery. This estate has been dedicated to producing high-quality organic wines since August 2008. The winery focuses on preserving the natural biodiversity of Clos des Avoueries while cultivating grapes that truly reflect the unique terroirs of the region.
A Winery with Centuries of History
Originally built as a fortress, Château de Messey boasts a rich history of vine cultivation dating back centuries. The modern chapter began in 1986 when Marc Dumont acquired the estate and its surrounding vineyards, which are part of the Mâcon-Cruzille wine region. In 1993, he constructed vaulted cellars for fermentation and expanded the vineyard by acquiring a parcel of Mâcon-Chardonnay, known as ‘les Crêts.’ Today, the winery spans 10.5 hectares, where Marc cultivates exceptional Chardonnay grapes, surrounded by boxwood, small oaks, and traditional stone walls.
