Château de Messey – A Centuries-Old Romanesque Fortress
Perched on the historical land of France, Château de Messey is a fortress-turned-winery located in the Ozenay appellation of Bourgogne. The estate has been producing top-quality organic wines since August 2008. Preserving the natural biodiversity of Clos des Avoueries and growing grapes that express the essence of the terroirs in which they are grown are the ultimate goals of Château de Messey.
Winery Building Built Between the 11th & 16th Century
Initially a fortress, Château de Messey has a centuries-old history of vine cultivation and grape harvesting. The latest story began in 1986 when Marc Dumont acquired the property and surrounding vineyards, labeled under the Mâcon-Cruzille wine region. In 1993, he built vaulted cellars for fermentation, and in the same year, he bought another parcel of Mâcon-Chardonnay, named it ‘les Crêts.’ Today, the winery operates on two vineyards, enclosed by boxwood, small oaks, and murgers. On this 10.5 hectares of land, Marc grows top-class Chardonnay.
