Discover Domaine Mas de Lavail
In 1999, Jean Battle acquired Domaine Mas de Lavail, he was helped by his grandfathers and motivated by the birth of his own son. Today, his son manages the winery. The estate, located in the heart of the Maury appellation, has a terroir of clay-limestone soil, surrounded by the two Corbières. Part of the terroir extends under the Cathar castle of Quéribus, on black shale soils. This soil type has the ability to store the heat of the sun and return it to the grapes during the night. Grenache and Carignan grown at Domaine Mas de Lavail in Cabirou reveal an exceptional concentration of sugar and flavor.
The Great Terroir of Domaine Mas de Lavail
The vineyard covers the area of 50 hectares. The old vines of Grenache Noir, Blanc, and Gris, Syrah as well as Carigan bury their roots in clay and limestone which infuses the wines with robust minerality. The hot microclimate promotes full maturation of the grapes and lends a lovely balance to the grapes. The temperatures are very high during harvest ensuring all white grapes are harvested in the early morning to preserve the aromas and freshness of the fruit.
