Welcome to Eguren Ugarte Winery

Located in the stunning hills of Sierra Cantabria, Eguren Ugarte Winery is a gem in the Rioja Alavesa region. With a rich history, this family-owned estate has been producing exceptional wines for generations. Visitors can enjoy breathtaking views and a unique wine tasting experience in the winery's extensive 2000 meters of ancient caves.

A Legacy Since 1870

The story of Eguren Ugarte began in 1870 when healer Pascasio Pangua bequeathed vineyards to Anastasio, the great-great-grandfather of the current owners. The fourth generation of this winemaking family introduced significant advancements in production, while the fifth and sixth generations continue to honor their heritage by blending traditional methods with modern techniques.

Exceptional Grapes from Historic Vines

The vineyards at Eguren Ugarte span various locations in Laguardia, featuring fifty-year-old grapevines in Labastida and Páganos. This region is ideal for cultivating high-quality varieties such as Tempranillo, Garnacha, Graciano, and more. Owners Asun and Mercedes prioritize manual grape picking, ensuring only the finest bunches are selected for their red, white, and rosé wines.

Experience the Beauty of Eguren Ugarte

In addition to wine tasting, Eguren Ugarte offers a comfortable hotel for guests wishing to enjoy the scenic beauty of the region. The well-appointed rooms provide modern amenities, making it a perfect retreat for wine lovers and travelers alike.

We had a wine cellar tour followed by a meal. It was very professional. The wines were absolutely top notch and the food went very well with them 👍. We will always remember it fondly.

It was a great experience, recommended the visit to a special winery, very well explained, with a lot of kindness and correct wine accompaniment. Very pleasant moment in the restaurant, treatment by the staff, homemade food on the spot, filling and quantity. Perfect value for money. Highly recommended. Hotel...there was no availability.

We went to visit the restaurant with the food offered and the truth is that everything was perfect. Both the staff who explained the visit and those who worked in the restaurant were very nice. The menu is incredible, both in quantity and flavor and if you have doubts about the wine, you can taste 3 different varieties with the meal, so it is a sure success.

My wife and I went with a gift voucher from my daughters with a visit to the winery and a meal for two. Let me start by saying that it was a splendid experience. After a couple of hours enjoying a beautiful Laguardia (it was the first time I went), walking around its streets, visiting the church and the tower (impressive views on a bright day, although it was freezing cold) and buying various local products, we went to the Eguren Ugarte winery at around 1:00 p.m. when the visit began. A very pleasant girl guided us with an impressive knowledge of the wine process, the winery and its activity. Very interesting and entertaining. The tour of the caves is especially surprising, as well as the tasting of three types of wine along with the description of them and chorizo sandwich, with the possibility of repeating, so that you can soak it up a bit. The food was plentiful and varied with typical dishes: two starters of black pudding with tomato and roasted peppers, two main dishes with caperrones and Riojan potatoes, two second dishes with salad and lamb chops and the finishing touch of goxua for dessert. We are good eaters and we leave something behind. It is worth noting that they left three types of wine at our complete disposal on the table: a white to start, a 50s red and a 2017 reserve. We were not able to fully enjoy them because of the driving afterwards, but we were able to taste them at least. In conclusion, we will have to stay overnight next time. We would also like to highlight the kindness and professionalism of all the people who attended to us at the reception, visit and restaurant. Thank you very much for your exquisite attention and see you next time.

The first time I stopped here was back in 2006 before there was a hotel and the old owner who built the winery was still alive (and took the time to show me around). To this day this is still one of my fondest memories of visiting Spain. I was only passing through on my way to catch the ferry in Bilbao. Intrigued by the architecture I stopped and wanted to find out more about this place. Next thing I'm invited to have lunch with the owner who had some friends visiting in the restaurant and tag along for a tour of the cellars. The hospitality was frankly mind-blowing. The lamb cutlets from the wood fired oven were next level and that's nothing to say of their wine. I still have the bottle of their Gran Reserva in its wooden box they gave me as a farewell present. Just incredible people!

My friend and I spent a night here in November, and we were truly impressed. The hotel has beautiful views of the surrounding vineyards, and guests are free to walk the grounds. Although our room was dated and on the smaller side, the views made up for it. We caught the sunset from our window. The best part of our stay was undoubtedly the 5-course dinner, which featured a set menu. Major kudos to the chef, who I think was working alone!!! The dinner was absolutely divine, and there was so much food that I had to force myself to finish everything. As a pescatarian, I appreciated that they substituted one of the meat dishes with a seafood option for me. I also have to commend the sole server who was managing all the tables. My only critique would be that there were long waits between courses; they seem understaffed with just two people on duty, so I can’t fault them. We also booked the wine tasting and cave tour for the next day. The tour was good, but I didn't care much for the wine included in the tour. Overall, we had wonderful time in the hotel and on the tour. Thank you very much!
