A Story of Passion

Azienda Agricola Giovanni Rosso is a cherished family-owned winery nestled in the Barolo commune of Serralunga d’Alba, Italy. Specializing in red wines, their heart lies in Barolo and its iconic grape, Nebbiolo. The Rosso family has cultivated these vineyards since the 1890s, focusing on renowned Crus such as Cerretta, La Serra, Broglio, Meriam, Sorano, Costa Bella, and Lirano & Damiano. In the early 1980s, Giovanni Russo restructured the vineyards to enhance fruit quality. Today, his son Davide, a skilled oenologist, manages the estate with a commitment to producing wines that authentically represent the terroir. The traditional family farmhouse, or Cascina, serves as the hub for fermentation, aging, bottling, and labeling.

The Vineyards of Giovanni Rosso

Giovanni Rosso is not only a Barolo producer but also a proud representative of Serralunga. The vineyards span approximately a dozen distinct plots throughout the commune, including historically significant areas like La Serra, Broglio, Damiano, and Vigna Rionda. Each plot features unique soil types, altitudes, and sun exposures, allowing for tailored vineyard practices that highlight the grapes' best qualities. This meticulous approach also accounts for the varying weather patterns that influence each vintage.

Organic Practices at the Winery

At Giovanni Rosso, a commitment to organic practices is paramount. The winery avoids artificial chemicals, including fertilizers, insecticides, and herbicides. All vineyard activities, from harvesting to pruning, are performed manually to protect the vines. Additionally, green harvesting is practiced, with cover crops planted between the vine rows to promote soil health and biodiversity within the vineyards.

Great vineyard with lovely people! We had a memorable day with an excellent guide showing us around and telling us everything we needed to know about the wines. It has a nice tasting area with an extensive menu of wines by the glass or bottles.

We decided on this company spontaneously and quickly. We were offered a small lunch in the new room (excellent) overlooking the vineyards, excellent food, and an excellent wine pairing. It's definitely worth doing again. A truly interesting location, a modern structure with excellent taste while maintaining the characteristics of the place. A very friendly welcome, young and very competent.

Beautiful experience and the girl who accompanied us was very well prepared! The chef is really exceptional! Too bad that the great chef Davide did not bother to greet all the guests, but only some, and pretended to have seen us even though he was standing in front of us talking to the other guests. Without considering that we too have been his customers for many years! It would have been nice to be able to share a moment with him! Luckily the wine is always on top!

It was my first time attending a wine tasting. I liked everything. Stylish place, nice girl talking about wine, nice glasses. We were taken to the wine barrel storage followed by wine tasting at the bar.

We had a wonderful tasting of excellent wines in a beautiful place, followed by an exceptional lunch to say the least, prepared by a very talented and friendly super chef. Maddalena accompanied us in this beautiful experience with her great kindness and above all her great ability to explain the wines and their history in a way that made them seem even more delicious
