In 1994, the Count Degenfeld family revitalized their wine estate in the renowned Tokaji wine region, continuing a legacy that spans over 150 years.

Winemaking Tradition

At Gróf Degenfeld, winemaking is a blend of passion for nature, respect for tradition, and the use of modern technology. We produce both dry wines and sweet specialties from the region's three primary grape varieties: Furmint, Hárslevelű, and Muscat Blanc (Yellow Muscat). Our offerings include exquisite late harvest wines, Szamorodni, and the celebrated Aszú wines, known for their rich flavors and complexity.

Vineyards and Organic Practices

Our 35-hectare vineyards are situated in Mád and Tarcal, featuring historic sites such as Terézia and Zomborka. Since 2009, we have embraced certified organic cultivation, ensuring that our practices are sustainable and environmentally friendly.

A Unique Estate

The Gróf Degenfeld Wine Estate is a stunning chateau-style property, harmoniously combining a castle, vineyards, and a cellar. This unique setting in the Tokaji wine region offers a picturesque backdrop for wine lovers.

Gróf Degenfeld Castle Hotel

Our four-star superior Gróf Degenfeld Castle Hotel is nestled within Theresa Park, surrounded by majestic old trees. The hotel features 20 double rooms and a suite, designed for relaxation. I was absolutely impressed by the level of hospitality and professionalism of everyone at the Degenfeld Castle Estate. I never experienced that kind of service before in Hungary. I made my way to Tarcal for the wine festival, but it turned out that all events had finished in the morning on Sunday. I was alone, but still the receptionist of the hotel asked his colleagues, if it was possible to hold a wine tasting for me, so I don’t walk away ‘empty handed’, so to speak. Normally they do wine tastings by reservation. I was seated in the Library Room and the restaurant manager did a tasting just for me! I went for their Botrytis selection, which is one champagne and five wines, finishing off with their Szamorodni, Andante and Aszú. Must say the quality of the wine is unbelievable, their champagne is just gorgeous (won numerous gold medals at exhibitions) and their sweet wines were divine as well. Their special Andante (2016) was just like heaven. István, my guide so to speak, was very well informed, and patient at the same time, he didn’t rush me, I took my time, drinking that much wine is a task (I just couldn’t get myself to pour the leftover out after tasting, this wine is just too gorgeous for this!). I spent hours there and in the end I was shown the estate and the cellar too. The menu of the restaurant is amazing with excellent wine pairing and they refresh their menu in every season. I’m definitely returning for at least a dinner but would love to take one of their rooms too - fantastic location and fantastic service. Highly recommended!

Dinner for two with wine pairing over 6 courses in a gorgeous chateau and impeccable service? Yes please, sign us up! The lands, the service, the flavors of the food and knowledgeable introduction to world-class wines…we had a seriously memorable experience which was complimented by an impromptu cellar tour by our Somm, himself. Such a personality and flips in and out of Hungarian/English effortlessly. Highly recommend.
