The Günzer Family Winery is located on the southern sunny slopes of the Villány Hills in Baranya County, Hungary. The Villány Wine Region is renowned for centuries old traditions in viticulture and excellent wines, and the Günzer family has been involved with wine-production for generations.

Natural conditions in wine production

The family winery started operations in 1990 on half a hectare of land. Though their production has expanded over the past three decades, they have stayed true to their small-scale roots, prioritizing producing pure wines that reflect the true characteristics of the vintage and variety. Since 2001, the Günzer family has been investing in technology in order to take full advantage of the present natural conditions in wine production, protecting the values unique to individual slopes in the Villány Hills.

The wines of this region are in highest demand in the Hungarian wine market due to their high quality. Here in Baranya County, the gently sloping hills receive the most hours of sunlight per day in all of Hungry and the wind from the north is blocked by the east-west running hills. The yellow and clay soils of the region is composed of marine sedimentary limestone and is perfectly suited for producing strong, full-bodied wine. In particular, this region is the most famous red wine-producing area in the country, due to the special soil and climactic conditions as well as the centuries-old oenological traditions. The estate grows Cabernet Franc, Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Kékfrankos, Pinot Noir, Kadarka, Syrah, and Portugieser. From this they produce white and rose wine along with the famous red.

The winery produces are highest quality OEM Classic, OEM Premium and OEM Super Premium wines, a Hungarian classification equivalent to PDO varieties elsewhere in Europe
