A beautifully restored medieval village surrounded by undisturbed nature and beauty, Il Borro is 1100-hectare winery which lies in the heart of Tuscany in Valdarno di Sopra region. The estate is blessed with fertile land, precious terroir and an ideal climate with mild winters. The vineyards were prophesied to blossom with grapes that make a unique and original wine.
The winery works with renewable resources
Ferruccio Ferragamo, the owner of the Il Borro, fell madly in love with the place and addressed it as “an enduring act of faith”. From 1993 he has worked every day to preserve Il Borro’s beauty and integrity, a task he carries on with relentless passion, aware that treasures such as Il Borro have to be protected and safeguarded. The restoration project was hence implemented to preserve its traditions and history, underpinned by ethical principles such as the use of local labor and respect for the environment by making eco-sustainable choices like renewable energy and natural fertilizers.
Visit the heart of the winery
Marked by centuries and surrounded by Tuscan nature, the cellar is at the heart of the Il Borro estate. Here, in the ancient structure buried below ground level, is one of the oldest cellars in Italy, where once Chianti wine was attempted. Since then to the present day, the enchantment of winemaking continues to prosper. The Il Borro estate grows Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon, Syrah and Petit Verdot along with Sangiovese and Chardonnay to produce different types of wines like red, white, rode, sparkling and dessert wines.
The fusion of the fabulous cellar, the picturesque vineyard and the diligent teamwork offers high-quality goods for visitors to sample and enjoy over the meal.
