A Taste of American Passion in Croatia's Dalmatia
The Meaning Behind the Name
Korta Katarina Winery is nestled in Croatia's Dalmatia region, a place celebrated for its rich culture, historic seaports, and winemaking traditions that trace back to the Roman Empire. The term “kortas” refers to gardens that served as gathering spots for sea captains and sailors. The name Korta Katarina honors these gardens and is also a tribute to the daughter of owners Lee and Penny Anderson.
A Blend of American Spirit and Croatian Heritage
In 2001, Americans Lee and Penny Anderson visited post-war Croatia with the St. David’s Relief Foundation to provide humanitarian aid. During their travels, they were captivated by the stunning landscapes, rich cultural heritage, and delightful cuisine of southern Croatia, especially the local wines. Their passion for wine and newfound love for Croatia led them to establish Korta Katarina, which released its first vintage in 2006. Since then, the Andersons have developed a state-of-the-art winery, tasting room, and the boutique hotel, Villa Korta Katarina.
A Prime Location for Wine Lovers
Though relatively new, Korta Katarina has made a name for itself in the Croatian wine market. Located on the picturesque Pelješac Peninsula, the winery is conveniently situated away from the bustling tourist hub of Dubrovnik, yet easily accessible. Surrounded by the sparkling Adriatic Sea, this location offers a serene backdrop for wine enthusiasts and travelers alike.
