Krolo Winery: A Family Tradition in Dalmatia

Located in Strmendolac, Trilj, Krolo Winery is a family-owned boutique winery that prides itself on handmade wine production. The winery specializes in the indigenous Crljenak Kastelanski variety, also known as Zinfandel, and Pošip, showcasing the unique flavors of the Dalmatian region.

Quality Wines with a Rich Heritage

Established 12 years ago, Krolo Winery spans 6 hectares of vineyards and celebrated its first harvest in 2007. Strmendolac, situated 30 kilometers north of Split, is the northernmost area for vine cultivation in Croatia, influenced by the surrounding mountain ranges and a challenging continental climate. The Krolo family has a 300-year tradition of viticulture, with Dražan Krolo being the first to pursue winemaking professionally. Since 2007, his passion for wine has led to the creation of award-winning wines that reflect the region's character.

Krolo wines have earned numerous international accolades, including medals at prestigious Blind Tastings in London and Bordeaux.

Wine Tasting Experience

Krolo Winery produces wines under the Dalmacija label, featuring grape varieties such as Crljenak Kastelanski, Pošip, Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon, and Chardonnay. These grapes contribute to exceptional white and rosé wines, while their premium red wines are celebrated for their remarkable taste. Visitors can enjoy tastings that include local food pairings and a chance to explore the beautiful vineyards and surrounding sights.

We stopped at this nice wine yard during our road trip through Croatia as we found it accidentally on Google maps. The owners were busy with preparations for a wedding at the next weekend but they were super friendly and offered us a small tasting besides the official opening hours. The wines have a great taste and you really feel the passion they put in the wines. Pošip is a great choice and very unique white wine. Highly recommended to stop over for a tasting, but I also recommend to make a reservation upfront to have enough time and attention to feel the great atmosphere of this place. P.S.: don‘t trust Google Maps as it might guide you through a vey bumpy and adventurous road, stay on the main road as long as possible. :)

We were in a group of 10 people, and we all had the traditional idea of a wine tasting, a couple of glasses of wine, talk a little about what we tried and that was it, but we received a great surprise! The 6 wines we tried had a story, all delicious and always the glasses full, it is not one of those tastings where you have a glass of each wine and that's it, all accompanied by traditional charcuterie from the area. The place was wonderful, we had a sunny day where we could be outside, walk through the vines, take photos and enjoy the day, in the end we took the tables out onto the terrace and enjoyed the end of the day. Karla and Filip were wonderful hosts, always responding to emails very quickly, and in the tasting itself, always giving more than they should, the whole group was amazed and it was the high note of our trip to Croatia. Special thanks to Karolina also who gave us tomatoes from the area, in addition to some desserts that were not included, wonderful! 100% recommended the tour, contact them directly for transportation and let yourself be surprised!

We had an absolutely beautiful time at Krolo! From the moment we walked in, we felt like family. Everything from booking the tour to getting home was handled professionally, which made our lives much easier. Loved hearing the history of the winery and getting to feel the true love and passion the family has for wine and for bringing guests into their home. We were treated to delicious wine and food and enjoyed just talking with the family about Croatia, wine, and everything in between. This tour turned out to be the best part of our Croatia trip. Would do it again in a heartbeat. Thank you so much!!
