Ancient Winery Established by the Bourbon Family
La Ferriera, a winery that makes wines from the grapes of the winery of Colle Alto in Atina, is located in the Atina Cabernet DOC area, precisely in the Valle di Comino region. The company has a long winemaking tradition and is beautifully positioned in a medieval building, established by the Bourbon family. Today, La Ferriera Winery is a well-known wine producer of red wines.
Wines Expressing the Rich Flavours of the Region
Built within the 1858-structure of the Bourbon family, the winery owns vineyards of Colle Alto Atina. La Ferriera is a certified producer of RealMagona DOC wines, made from Cabernet and Syrah grapes and Ferrato IGT wines, produced using Petit Verdot, Syrah, and Cabernet vines. All these wines and their aromatic flavors express the richness of the soil and the terroir of the Atina region. Along with that, they also deliver delicious rose wines, under the label – Rosato Della Ferriera.
Combination of Modern and Traditional Methods
At La Ferriera, the owner uses the Guyot method for vine cultivation, along with modern equipment for wine production in the cellar. The ten hectares of vineyards of the ancient estate enjoy the microclimate and perfect soil. It is because, from the north, they are surrounded by the Apennine chains of Abruzzo and from the south by the mountains of lower Ciociaria. The Guyot trained grapes have an average density of 3500 grape plants per hectare. After harvest, the best bunches of grapes are moved to the cellar for soft pressing. After fermentation, the wines are stored in French oak barrels for suitable aging and refining.
