Historic Winery Founded by the Bourbon Family
La Ferriera is a distinguished winery located in the Atina Cabernet DOC area of the Valle di Comino region. This winery, which produces wines from the grapes of Colle Alto, is housed in a charming medieval building established by the Bourbon family. Today, La Ferriera is recognized for its exceptional red wines, reflecting a long-standing winemaking tradition.
Wines Reflecting the Region's Rich Flavors
Constructed in 1858, La Ferriera's winery is surrounded by the picturesque vineyards of Colle Alto Atina. The winery is a certified producer of RealMagona DOC wines, crafted from Cabernet and Syrah grapes, as well as Ferrato IGT wines made from Petit Verdot, Syrah, and Cabernet vines. Each wine showcases the unique terroir and rich soil of the Atina region, complemented by delightful rosé wines under the label Rosato Della Ferriera.
Modern Techniques Meet Traditional Practices
At La Ferriera, the owner employs the Guyot method for vine cultivation, utilizing modern equipment for wine production in the cellar. The estate's ten hectares of vineyards benefit from a favorable microclimate, sheltered by the Apennine mountains to the north and the lower Ciociaria mountains to the south. With an average density of 3,500 grape plants per hectare, the carefully tended vines yield high-quality grapes. After harvest, the finest bunches are gently pressed, and the wines are aged in French oak barrels, allowing for optimal maturation and refinement.
