La Rajade, Located in Perfect Terroir for Wine Making
Flanked by hilly strips and mountainous buttresses, between the borders of Friuli and Slovenia, La Rajade is located in the Collio wine region. The vineyards are stretched alongside the Isonzo River and its tributary, the Judrio river – a perfect place for the cultivation of vines. La Rajade is an excellent example of ‘tradition-meets-innovation,’ using which the estate produces aromatic wines that express the essence of the territory.
Reshaping Ancient Winery
Two business tycoon families of Varmo, Campeotto and Faurlin, decided to acquire an ancient winery in 2005, and that’s how La Rajade came into existence. Sticking to the peasant style winemaking methods, the families replanted the vineyards with unique grapes and began a new production line. Over the years, many modern equipment and techniques are incorporated in the cellar to obtain the highest quality. A new tasting room was built within the cellar for tourists to enjoy an exquisite wine tasting moments.
Savory Wines That Reflects the Area
The territory surrounding the winery is a blend of sandstone and marl, where the owners grow a broad line of grapes, comprising Ribolla Gialla, Friulano, Pinot Grigio, Sauvignon, and Malvasia Istriana. It also houses fruity Merlot, Cabernet Franc, Cabernet Sauvignon, and Schioppettino. After the handpicking process during the harvesting, only the juiciest and well-ripened berries are allowed to ferment in the stainless steel tanks. Some of the famous wines delivered by La Rajade are red and white, bottled under Collio DOC and Venezia Giulia IGT labels.
