A Family-Owned Winery Committed to Tradition and Sustainability
Macchia Dei Briganti
Located in the lush hills of Irpinia, Macchia Dei Briganti winery specializes in producing exquisite Avellino and Irpinia wines that reflect the unique character of the region. The winery's story began in 2001 when the family decided to honor their ancestors by replanting an old vineyard of Aglianico grapes. Over the years, they expanded their vineyards to include more Aglianico and Fiano varieties. Initially, the grapes were sold to other wineries, but the family soon chose to craft their own wines. The name “Macchia dei Briganti” pays homage to the area's rich history of banditry along the ancient Appia Antica route, which connected Puglia and Campania.
The Vines of the Winery
The vineyards are strategically situated between Montefalcione and Lapio, the only towns in Avellino province recognized with the prestigious DOCG designation for Aglianico and Fiano. The clay-rich soil provides essential nutrients, while the vineyards benefit from optimal sun exposure and an altitude of 600 meters above sea level, creating a perfect microclimate. This environment allows the winery to cultivate high-quality grapes, resulting in some of the finest wines in Avellino. Visitors can appreciate the dedication to sustainable practices and traditional methods that define Macchia Dei Briganti's approach to winemaking.
