Biodynamic Winery with Seven Organic Wines and a Biogas Plant
Nucleated in a medieval village of Castello Ginori di Querceto, Marchesi Ginori Lisci is a centuries-old castle estate located in the northern part of Maremma, Tuscany. The village, the ancient castle, and the Querceto estate, combinedly cover an area of 2000 hectares, out of which 700 hectares are for the cultivation of cereals and 17 hectares for vines. The company also consists of a biogas plant and 12-holiday apartments, entirely refurbished with modern amenities.
The Same Family has Owned Marchesi Ginori Lisci Estate Since the 16th Century
In 1543, one of the noble families of Volterra, the Lisci family, acquired Querceto Castle. Francesca, the last descendant of the Lisci family and sole owner of the ancient castle, married Marchese Lorenzo Ginori in 1786. Later in 1814, her son took over the estate. Carlo Leopoldo improved the cultivation methods and started cattle breeding. In the late 20th, Lorenzo and his son Leonardo, the Ginori family members, made the winery a modern agriculture enterprise model. They renovated the village with a typical rustic style, a perfect holiday spot for history and wine lovers.
Since 1999, the Ginori Family has Invested Massively in the Vineyards
Today, new specialized vineyards have been cultivated with top-class Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon, Syrah, Sangiovese, Vermentino, and Viognier. The vineyards are nestled in the certified appellation of Montescudaio, on three hilly plots that offer fertile terroirs and microclimate for grape farming. Residual biomass is used in the vineyards, a natural fertilizer released by the biogas plant during the fermentation process.
Modern Cellar in the Winery’s Heart, Reflecting Traditions
Leonardo Ginori established a new cellar in an old, restored building in Querceto. Derived from the ancient theatre, the wine cellar comprises different rooms, such as the grape reception room, fermentation room, and barrel room. Aging and refining of organic wines take place in stainless steel tanks and 225-liter wooden barriques. Come and organize your private events in the winery, with perfect wine-food pairings.
