A Historic Tuscan Winery with Organic Wines
Winery with Eight Organic Wines and a Biogas Plant
Located in the medieval village of Castello Ginori di Querceto, Marchesi Ginori Lisci is a historic estate in northern Maremma, Tuscany. The estate spans 2,000 hectares, with 700 hectares dedicated to cereal cultivation and 17 hectares to vineyards. In addition to its vineyards, the estate features a biogas plant and ten fully refurbished holiday apartments, offering modern comforts in a rustic setting.
A Legacy Since the 16th Century
The Lisci family, a noble lineage from Volterra, acquired Querceto Castle in 1543. Francesca Lisci, the last descendant, married Marchese Lorenzo Ginori in 1786, and their son took over the estate in 1814. Carlo Leopoldo modernized farming practices and introduced cattle breeding. In the late 20th century, Lorenzo and his son Leonardo transformed the winery into a model of modern agriculture, restoring the village to create a charming destination for history and wine enthusiasts.
Investment in Quality Vineyards
Since 1999, the Ginori family has focused on cultivating high-quality vineyards featuring Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon, Syrah, Vermentino, and Viognier. These vineyards are located in the Montescudaio appellation, benefiting from fertile terroirs and a favorable microclimate. The biogas plant contributes natural fertilizer, enhancing the sustainability of their organic farming practices.
A Modern Cellar with Traditional Roots
Leonardo Ginori established a new cellar within the restored buildings of Castello Ginori di Querceto. This unique wine cellar, built from the remnants of an ancient theater, includes dedicated spaces for grape reception, fermentation, and aging. Organic wines are aged in stainless steel tanks and 225-liter wooden barriques. The winery also offers a venue for private events, complete with curated wine and food pairings.
