Le Mas Gourdou lies 25 km from Montpellier on the banks of the Gard and Hérault. It locates in the heart of the Pic Saint Loup appellation area. The property is the family since the French Revolution. It extends over several communes including Valflaunes and Sauteyrargues.
At the foot of the Hortus Mountains, 150 meters above sea level, the land shelters from the cold winds of the north, Mistral and Tramontana. Their exposure to the south-east allows them to make the most of the sun in the south of France. The grape mainly consists of Syrah, Grenache Noir, Mourvèdre, Carignan, Grenache Blanc, Marsanne, Roussanne, Viognier and Clairette. They plant the vines on small plots in the middle of forests of holm oaks, Aleppo pines. Mediterranean plants (rosemary, thyme, arbutus, lavender) surround the vines. It contributes to the aromas of the wines.
Their red wine delivers the aromas of ripe red fruits. They keep this wine in cellars for 3 to 4 years. The winemakers use Syrah, Grenache and Mouvedre grape variety for this. They indulge in manual harvesting. It is done to limit the yields and concentrate on aromas.
