Discover Mas Gourdou
Mas Gourdou winery lies 25 km from Montpellier on the banks of the Gard and Hérault. It is located in the heart of the Pic-Saint-Loup appellation area. It has been the property of the same family since the French Revolution. The vineyards cover a large area over several communes including Valflaunes and Sauteyrargues.
The Generous Mediterranean Terroir of Mas Gourdou
At the foot of the Hortus Mountains, 150m above sea level, the land shelters from the cold winds of the north, Mistral and Tramontana. The exposure to the south-east allows them to make the most of the sun in the south of France. The grape mainly consists of Syrah, Grenache Noir, Mourvèdre, Carignan, Grenache Blanc, Marsanne, Roussanne, Viognier and Clairette. They plant the vines on small plots in the middle of forests of holm oaks and Aleppo pines. The best Mas Gourdou red wine has aromas of ripe red fruits, it is matured in cellars for three to four years. The winemakers use Syrah, Grenache and Mouvedre grape variety for this blend. They only hand harvest limiting the yields and helping concentration of the flavors. Mediterranean plants of rosemary, thyme, arbutus, and lavender surround the vines of Mas Gourdou and contribute greatly to the aromas of the wines.
