16th Century Cellar

The Montevecchio Isolani winery boasts a rich history, with its cellars carved into rock dating back to the late 16th century during the construction of the Palazzo Senatorio. These historic cellars have been home to our wines, which reflect the unique terroir and traditions of the Colli Bolognesi region. Gualtiero and his family oversee every step of the production process, ensuring that each bottle embodies their passion and dedication.

Tradition Meets Technology

At Montevecchio, we believe that tradition and innovation go hand in hand. Our modern equipment is designed to enhance the natural aromas and freshness of our grapes. A gentle pressing method preserves the integrity of our white grapes, while our variable speed destemmer-crusher separates red grapes from their stalks without damaging the skins. We utilize stainless-steel barrels, fermenters, and autoclaves to maintain hygiene and temperature control, safeguarding the original flavors. For aging our red wines, we rely on concrete tanks and the finest French oak barriques and tonneaux located in the oldest part of our cellar.

Montevecchio Vineyards

Our vineyards are situated at an elevation of 210 meters above sea level, thriving in clay-sandy sedimentary soil with a North-East exposure. Together with our dedicated team, we manage every aspect of vineyard care, from pruning to harvesting. We harvest grapes at their optimal ripeness for each variety and wine type. Since the 2015 harvest, our estate has been certified organic, eliminating synthetic pesticides, fertilizers, and herbicides, and using only natural products to nurture our vines.

A remote location, in a very nice area, not too far from Bologna. Everything looks a bit old from outside, but inside they have put some new wine tanks for better results and wine preservation. We met the owner of the winery, a charming person, who told us the story of the place and showed the production and storage area. The wines are quoted to be very good. Prices are good too, starting from 7€ up to 20€,

A few minutes from Bologna on a charming hill, a winery with a long tradition in a beautiful building. I passed by this morning without even booking the visit and Maria, the girl at the reception, was very kind, very professional and helpful... we visited the vineyards pruned with the Simonit method and tasted the wines, all excellent, especially the Pignoletto frizzante and the Rosso Bologna. A visit with tasting is absolutely recommended, don't miss the purchase of a few bottles with an excellent quality/price ratio. Well done!

My husband and I booked a cellar tour and tasting and it was AMAZING! Maria was a fantastic guide and the history of the property was very interesting. After the cellar tour you get four glasses of wine, along with some meats and cheeses, all of which were 10/10. Also Maria’s dog joined us for the tour and he was so sweet and loved the attention!! Highly recommend if you’re visiting Bologna and want to see the countryside and try some great wine!

Maria was a lovely host and we enjoyed our time at her vineyard and the wines. She was able to accommodate us with less than a days notice and even when we didn’t speak the same language as others on our group, she took the time to explain the tour and tasting in our language. Would love to visit again.

Amazing place to learn more about wine making and the history of the region. Firstly we’ve received a detailed explanation of the machinery and methods used to Make wine and at the end we got to taste some of the wines produced there. Needless to say that they were very tasty. This was definitely the highlight of our trip to Italy.
