Azienda Agricola Pusterla: A Winery with Deep Roots in Arda and Chiavenna

Nestled on the picturesque slopes of the Arda Valley near Castell’Arquato, Azienda Agricola Pusterla is a historic winery with origins dating back to the 3rd century. Situated at an elevation of 130 to 200 meters above sea level, this estate has been lovingly maintained by the Freschi family since the 19th century. In 1994, the winery embraced organic farming practices, significantly reducing the use of herbicides and synthetic products to ensure the production of high-quality wines that reflect the region's natural beauty.

The estate spans 23 hectares and is part of the renowned Colli Piacentini region, known for its exceptional wines.

A Region Known for Its Exceptional Grapes

The vineyards at Azienda Agricola Pusterla are home to a diverse array of grape varieties. White grapes include Malvasia di Candia Aromatica, Moscato Bianco, Ortrugo, Trebbiano Romagnolo, Sauvignon, and Chardonnay. The red varieties feature Pinot Nero, Cabernet Sauvignon, and Merlot. The winery prioritizes soil health, ensuring a natural balance that promotes the vitality of the vines. Since the early 2000s, many old vineyards have been replanted, maintaining a density of over 3,500 plants per hectare to enhance the quality of the grapes.

Honoring the Unique Characteristics of Each Grape

While steeped in history, Azienda Agricola Pusterla features a modern cellar equipped with advanced technology to optimize wine production. White grapes undergo a gentle pressing, followed by immediate cooling and a slow fermentation process at controlled temperatures. Red grapes are fermented with their skins for 8 to 10 days after careful selection, followed by lactic fermentation to enhance softness. The red wines are aged for two years in the old underground cellar of the castle, using small and medium oak barrels to develop their rich flavors.

The first experience was excellent, congratulations to husband and wife, one for the tour of the cellar and the other for the tasting, the beautiful place and the honest prices. In the end we bought 6 x 1.5 nights of reserve wine at 4 euros per liter

It was super nice!! The location was lovely. We’ve got a tour and some wine tasting. The tour was nice, but the wine tasting was awesome. We got to learn a lot and could ask all of our question. The wines were very nice + the owner was super sweet/ friendly.

Excellent wines at very affordable prices. The whole family works in the company, everyone is very kind and helpful. In addition, the company headquarters is fantastic: a fortified villa from 1400, hence the name Pusterla da posta.
