The History of the Winery
The history of the Paul Knod Winery begins in 1930 with young Jakob Knob. In 1963, his son, Paul Knod, acquired the winemaking business and changed the name of the estate to his own. He also dedicated himself solely to the wine production on their property and abolished livestock farming. In the following years, in the steep slopes of Mosel, land consolidation took place, and Paul purchased more land for grape growing. Following the footsteps of his father and grandfather, Rainer Knod acquired the winery in 1995 and introduced many advanced methods in wine production. So far, he has blessed the winery with many awards under his ownership.
Main Cultivated Varieties and the Guesthouse
With modern knowledge of viticulture and great foresight, Rainer cultivates his vineyards with a broad spectrum of grapes. His selection includes excellent Riesling, Grauburgunder, Spätburgunder, and Rivaner. He, along with his experienced staff, carefully selects the berries during harvesting season through manual handpicking to produce delicious wines. The wines at Paul Knod include top-class red, white, and sparkling wines, together with aroma-rich rosé and dessert wines.
Boasting a magnificent view of Mosel Valley, the family-owned Falklay guesthouse is nestled in between the vineyards and the estate. This 1999-built farmhouse, laced with modern facilities, consists of four well-furnished rooms for guests. The apartments are equipped with private bathrooms, televisions, and free WiFi. Each room has a balcony overlooking the beautiful landscapes of the Mosel Valley.
