Petrolo Estate is a part of the old medieval history, located in in Val d’ Arno di Sopra on the south-east side of the Chianti mountains bordering Chianti Classico. An old tower of still remains on top of Roman foundations inside the property. The winery was purchased by the Bazzocchi family in the 1940s to start their wine business with traditional methods. Since the end of the 80s, the current owner Luca Sanjust has changed the production aims and methods to concentrate exclusively on results of the highest quality. From 2016, all Petrolo wines have official EU Organic Certification. Petrolo Estate has adopted sustainable farming since 2004 in their 31 hectares of vineyards.
Petrolo Estate grows different varieties of grapes such as Sangiovese, Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon, Trebbiano and Malvasia Bianca in their fields. With these grapes, they produce a lot of red, white and dessert wines. Some of their wines are Valdarno di Sopra DOC Sangiovese, Valdarno di Sopra DOC Merlot, Valdarno di Sopra DOC Cabernet Sauvignon, IGT Toscana Rosso, IGT Toscana Bianco and IGT Toscana Passito.
Traditional farming methods have been gradually abandoned favouring dry farming, no tillage, total grassing with mulch management and no use of synthetic pesticides or fertilizers. You can visit the winery to learn more about the organic wine production. They also offer guided tasting of their best wines. Other than wines they also produce organic olive oil IGP Toscano and Laudemio since the 90’s. Come and try Petrolo Estate’s awesome products.
