Petrolo Estate: A Glimpse into Medieval History

Petrolo Estate is steeped in rich medieval history, nestled in the Val d’Arno di Sopra region on the southeastern slopes of the Chianti mountains, adjacent to Chianti Classico. The estate features an ancient tower built on Roman foundations, a testament to its storied past. The Bazzocchi family acquired the winery in the 1940s, initially employing traditional winemaking methods. Since the late 1980s, current owner Luca Sanjust has shifted the focus towards producing wines of exceptional quality. Notably, all Petrolo wines have held official EU Organic Certification since 2016, and the estate has embraced sustainable farming practices since 2004 across its 31 hectares of vineyards.

Experience a Diverse Selection of Wines

At Petrolo Estate, a variety of grapes flourish, including Sangiovese, Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon, Trebbiano, and Malvasia Bianca. These grapes are crafted into an impressive range of wines, including Valdarno di Sopra DOC Sangiovese, Valdarno di Sopra DOC Merlot, Valdarno di Sopra DOC Cabernet Sauvignon, IGT Toscana Rosso, IGT Toscana Bianco, and IGT Toscana Passito. Each wine reflects the unique terroir of the region, offering a taste of Tuscany in every sip.

Winemaking in Harmony with Nature

Petrolo Estate has gradually moved away from traditional farming methods, opting for dry farming, no tillage, and total grassing with mulch management. The estate avoids synthetic pesticides and fertilizers, ensuring a natural approach to viticulture. Visitors can learn about organic wine production through guided tastings of their finest wines. In addition to wine, Petrolo also produces organic olive oil IGP Toscano and Laudemio, a tradition that dates back to the 1990s. Experience the exceptional products of Petrolo Estate and appreciate the harmony of nature and winemaking.

So much history around the Petrolo farm, from the Romans to the present day. Always a territory dedicated to excellent wines, it maintains its wine and olive oil peculiarities intact. The eighteenth-century villa overlooking the Pieve and the Galatrona Tower is beautiful, the historic cellars are interesting and unique, its vineyards and olive groves are fabulous. A place to savor calmly

Petrolo is nothing short of a dream come true. My husband and I had the incredible privilege of getting married at Petrolo in June 2023, and the experience was beyond anything we could have imagined. We stayed in the villa for four unforgettable nights with 26 of our closest friends and family, and every moment was pure perfection. One of the highlights of our stay was having Petrolo’s chef prepare dinner for us each evening—a decision I can’t recommend enough. Marco worked with us to create a thoughtfully curated menu that our guests are still raving about. The meals were exquisite and added an extra layer of magic to our time there. It’s safe to say none of us will ever forget the enchantment of Petrolo, and we’re already dreaming of the day we can return. A special shoutout to Marco, who went above and beyond to make our wedding planning seamless. Planning a wedding from the US at a venue we’d never seen in person felt overwhelming at first, but Marco answered every question with care and ensured that every detail was handled to perfection. His dedication and expertise made all the difference, and we can’t thank him enough. I’m sharing some photos from our time at Petrolo because words simply can’t capture its magic. Whether you’re planning a wedding, a family trip, or a getaway with your closest friends, Petrolo is truly the place where dreams are made.

We just spent an incredible long weekend at La Costa at Petrolo, and I can’t recommend it enough! The house is in such a beautiful spot, right in the middle of the Tuscan countryside, surrounded by vineyards and stunning views. It was the perfect place to relax and spend time with friends. The house was super comfortable for our group of eight; plenty of space and everything we needed for a great stay. We loved spending time out on the terrace for BBQs while enjoying the scenery or cooling off at the pool next to it. A huge shoutout to Marco, who took amazing care of us. He was always available to help, whether we had questions or needed anything. His local tips and friendly support made the whole experience even better. And we can't forget to mention Petrolo's wines. Tasting these wines, while surrounded by the vineyards they come from, was a highlight of our stay. Every glass was a perfect reflection of Tuscany’s finest and a clear testament to why Petrolo has gained international recognition for the exceptional quality. We had an unforgettable time, and are already dreaming about going back! Thank you Petrolo team!
