A Modern Organic Approach to Traditional Winemaking in Tuscany
Petrolo Estate: A Glimpse into Medieval History
Petrolo Estate is steeped in rich medieval history, nestled in the Val d’Arno di Sopra region on the southeastern slopes of the Chianti mountains, adjacent to Chianti Classico. The estate features an ancient tower built on Roman foundations, a testament to its storied past. The Bazzocchi family acquired the winery in the 1940s, initially employing traditional winemaking methods. Since the late 1980s, current owner Luca Sanjust has shifted the focus towards producing wines of exceptional quality. Notably, all Petrolo wines have held official EU Organic Certification since 2016, and the estate has embraced sustainable farming practices since 2004 across its 31 hectares of vineyards.
Experience a Diverse Selection of Wines
At Petrolo Estate, a variety of grapes flourish, including Sangiovese, Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon, Trebbiano, and Malvasia Bianca. These grapes are crafted into an impressive range of wines, including Valdarno di Sopra DOC Sangiovese, Valdarno di Sopra DOC Merlot, Valdarno di Sopra DOC Cabernet Sauvignon, IGT Toscana Rosso, IGT Toscana Bianco, and IGT Toscana Passito. Each wine reflects the unique terroir of the region, offering a taste of Tuscany in every sip.
Winemaking in Harmony with Nature
Petrolo Estate has gradually moved away from traditional farming methods, opting for dry farming, no tillage, and total grassing with mulch management. The estate avoids synthetic pesticides and fertilizers, ensuring a natural approach to viticulture. Visitors can learn about organic wine production through guided tastings of their finest wines. In addition to wine, Petrolo also produces organic olive oil IGP Toscano and Laudemio, a tradition that dates back to the 1990s. Experience the exceptional products of Petrolo Estate and appreciate the harmony of nature and winemaking.
