A Historic Chianti Classico Winery in Tuscany
Welcome to Piemaggio Winery
Piemaggio Winery is nestled in the picturesque north-western region of Castellina, within the renowned Chianti Classico area of Tuscany. The estate features a charming farmhouse, also named Piemaggio, which dates back to the 12th century. This historic site is home to an ancient Pieve, reflecting the rich agricultural heritage of the region. The winery's traditions and values have been lovingly passed down through generations, and this legacy is beautifully captured in every bottle of wine produced here.
Exceptional Vineyards and Grape Varieties
Spanning 12 hectares, the vineyards at Piemaggio are cultivated using the Guyot training system, taking full advantage of the ideal altitude and climate for grape growing. The unique Alberese and Galestro soils provide excellent drainage, allowing the vines to thrive. While Sangiovese is the primary grape variety, the estate also cultivates Canaiolo, Ciliegiolo, and Colorino. These grapes contribute to the production of Chianti Classico and Colli della Toscana red wines. Additionally, Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon are grown for IGT wines, showcasing the winery's diverse offerings.
Modern Winery and Cellar Facilities
Located just 1 km from the farmhouse, the winery's cellar underwent a significant renovation in 2014, featuring state-of-the-art 100 HL stainless steel fermentation vats. These vats play a crucial role in the aging process, helping to preserve the wines' original fruity flavors. French oak barrels are also utilized for aging, enhancing the character and balance of the wines. Each sip of Piemaggio wine reflects the true essence of Chianti Classico, making it a delightful experience for wine enthusiasts.
