Chianti Classico’s Piemaggio
The Piemaggio winery is in the north-western part of Castellina, located in Le Fioraie, of the coveted Chianti Classico area in Toscana. There is a farmhouse in the middle of the estate, which is named Piemaggio. The farmhouse belongs to the 12th century and has an ancient Pieve at the estate, which shows the agricultural heritage of the place. All the traditions and ideals have been passed on from generation to generation, and the wine here reflects that.
Elite level vineyards and grapes
Guyot system of training is used across 12 hectares of vineyards here on the hills. The altitude and climatic conditions are perfect for vine cultivation. Alberese and Galestro soils drain the vines perfectly and allow them to develop properly. Sangiovese is the main variety here but Canaiolo, Ciliegiolo, Colorino, also grow here. These grapes are used to make Chianti Classico, Colli della Tosacana red wine. Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon are grown to make an IGT wine.
State-of-the-art winery and cellar
Situated 1 km. from the farmhouse, the cellar was renovated in 2014 with the installation of 100 HL stainless steel vats for fermentation. Vats help during the aging process and allow the wines to retain an original fruity taste. French oak barrels are used for ageing the wines here. When you take a sip, you will feel the expression and taste of Chianti Classico. Proper character and balance are the hallmarks of their products.
