Experience Organic Wines from the Heart of Tuscany
I Pilastri: A Family-Run Organic Winery
I Pilastri is a charming, family-owned winery nestled in the picturesque hills of Fosdinovoi, a commune in the Massa and Carrara province of Tuscany, approximately 110 kilometers northwest of Florence. This region is steeped in history, featuring a medieval castle once ruled by the Malaspina family, the former dukes of Massa. Founded in 1992 by the Pascale family, the winery initially focused on producing extra virgin olive oil. In 2010, with the involvement of daughter Francesca, the family transitioned to winemaking, emphasizing organic practices from the very beginning. The winery respects the natural cycle of the land, avoiding chemical interventions.
The first grape variety planted at I Pilastri was Vermentino, followed by Vermentino Nero, Canaiolo, and Merlot.
The Unique Soils of Fosdinovoi
The Fosdinovoi hills boast rich clay and mineral soils that enhance the acidity of the grapes, complemented by the vibrant Mediterranean scrub, including broom, oak, and strawberry trees that line the vineyard paths. The winery's first vinification took place in 2013 at the Terenzuola cellars, where oenologist Claudia Felisso began her journey. Since 2015, I Pilastri has operated independently, crafting wines in their new cellar, showcasing the unique terroir of Tuscany.
