Crafting Exceptional Organic Maremma Toscana DOC Wines
Exclusive High-Quality Wines
Poggio Cagnano began its winemaking journey in 2005, dedicating a decade to restoring ancient olive groves, constructing a state-of-the-art winery, and planting vineyards in the promising Maremma region. Their first harvest took place in 2014, and today, they are celebrated for producing limited quantities of high-quality organic Maremma Toscana DOC wines. With plans to expand their vineyards, Poggio Cagnano aims to craft around 25,000 bottles annually in the coming years.
Unique Mountain Climate
The winery boasts breathtaking views from Monte Amiata to the Argentario Sea, with 5 hectares of vineyards situated on an Arenaria block, surrounded by lush oak forests and olive groves. The sandy loam and rocky soil, combined with the region's mountain climate, create ideal conditions for grape cultivation. This environment produces grapes with thick skins, enhancing tannin levels and improving the wines' intensity and aging potential. The primary grape varieties include Ciliegiolo, Sangiovese, Ansonica, and Vermentino, along with some international varieties like Merlot, Cabernet, and Grenache.
Commitment to Soil and Biodiversity
Since 2015, Poggio Cagnano has embraced organic farming practices, avoiding chemicals in both the vineyards and the cellar. Their sustainable techniques promote biodiversity and the health of the vines. The winery employs modern technology and machinery, with wines aged in oak barrels to achieve their desired flavor profiles. Among their notable offerings are three red wines: the Rose, Vermentino, and Maremma Toscana DOC, each reflecting the unique terroir of the region.
