Exclusive High-Quality Wines

Poggio Cagnano began its winemaking journey in 2005, dedicating a decade to restoring ancient olive groves, constructing a state-of-the-art winery, and planting vineyards in the promising Maremma region. Their first harvest took place in 2014, and today, they are celebrated for producing limited quantities of high-quality organic Maremma Toscana DOC wines. With plans to expand their vineyards, Poggio Cagnano aims to craft around 25,000 bottles annually in the coming years.

Unique Mountain Climate

The winery boasts breathtaking views from Monte Amiata to the Argentario Sea, with 5 hectares of vineyards situated on an Arenaria block, surrounded by lush oak forests and olive groves. The sandy loam and rocky soil, combined with the region's mountain climate, create ideal conditions for grape cultivation. This environment produces grapes with thick skins, enhancing tannin levels and improving the wines' intensity and aging potential. The primary grape varieties include Ciliegiolo, Sangiovese, Ansonica, and Vermentino, along with some international varieties like Merlot, Cabernet, and Grenache.

Commitment to Soil and Biodiversity

Since 2015, Poggio Cagnano has embraced organic farming practices, avoiding chemicals in both the vineyards and the cellar. Their sustainable techniques promote biodiversity and the health of the vines. The winery employs modern technology and machinery, with wines aged in oak barrels to achieve their desired flavor profiles. Among their notable offerings are three red wines: the Rose, Vermentino, and Maremma Toscana DOC, each reflecting the unique terroir of the region.

Il Poggio is in a beautiful location with a terrace from which you can enjoy a truly breathtaking view. The hosts are two delightful guys who radiate enthusiasm and passion. We stumbled on this vineyard while we were staying in town. The owner and staff were fantastic. The food was fresh from the garden and paired so well with the wine. We ordered a case to the US and it shipped quickly with no issues.

We stayed for two nights and it was not nearly enough. A beautiful place overlooking the vineyards with a modernist (yet extremely comfortable) touch. The design details are just fabulous. Alessandro and Eleonora are charming yet quiet hosts, passionate about what they do. We had an incredible vegetarian breakfast and dinner on the terrace outside of our room, and were able to try the delicious wines produced on site. The guest house is within close walking distance of Manciano which is a delightful town full of families and with everything on offer. Highly recommended.

We visited the winery for a tasting and dinner. Alessandro places great emphasis on traditional winemaking and a sustainable approach to the terroir. The wines are of the highest quality and I highly recommend trying them. The purely vegetarian dinner consisted of six courses and was to die for. Eleonora is a master in the kitchen. We were really impressed. Thank you for the delicious and enjoyable evening in your wonderful cellar.

The wine is spectacular and the food is in the same level. The hosts are really kind and knowledgeable about the territorio. If you around, go there. Don't expect classic maremma wine. They dialog with tradition strongly oriented to new expressions, expect respect to the territorio with a elegant personalit.
