A Winery with Roots in the 14th Century

Situated in the picturesque Valpolicella Classico district, Possessioni di Serego Alighieri is a historic estate renowned for its winemaking heritage. Founded in 1353 by Pietro Alighieri, the son of the famous poet Dante Alighieri, this charming winery is nestled among lush hills just a few kilometers from Verona and the stunning Lake Garda. The Alighieri family joined forces with the influential Serego family in 1549, and since then, the Serego-Alighieri lineage has continued to nurture this estate, dedicated to crafting exceptional wines that reflect their love for the land.

Exclusive Wines from the Descendants of Dante Alighieri

Possessioni di Serego Alighieri stands as a hallmark of quality in the Valpolicella region. The estate's wines are a testament to the dedication and expertise of the skilled team working in its vineyards. In 1973, Tenuta Serego Alighieri became part of the prestigious Masi Group, further enhancing its reputation. The estate features a wide courtyard paved with traditional Prune stone, and in 1875, 11 ancient vines were planted to commemorate the birth of Count Pieralvise.

Traditional Winemaking Practices

The winery employs traditional appassimento techniques, using drying lofts to concentrate the rich flavors of the grapes. After harvesting the classic Valpolicella blend of Corvina, Rondinella, and Molinara, the grapes are laid out on bamboo racks, or Arele, for a minimum of 100 days. The estate produces two prestigious wines, Amarone and Recioto, both celebrated worldwide. Possessioni di Serego Alighieri boasts some of the oldest cellars in Valpolicella, where ancient winemaking traditions are still honored. The aroma of wine aging in 600-liter cherry wood barrels fills the cellar, enhancing the wines' smoothness and character.

Visitors are warmly welcomed to the estate to sample a selection of premium red and white wines, paired with local delicacies. Guests can learn about the winemaking process while engaging with fellow wine enthusiasts. A guided tasting offers insights into how the team transforms grapes into internationally acclaimed wines. Strolling through the gardens and vineyards provides a glimpse into the rich history of the Alighieri family and the Valpolicella region. Enjoy a delightful day at Serego Alighieri with friends and family, and take the opportunity to purchase wines directly from the cellar. Very nice visit made by Francesco. Very professional. The state is amazing with wonderful history. The wines are nice but a bit overpriced in my opinion. I found the costasera same price in winery that in duty free in airports. No benefits for the people who visit the winery?

We learnt lots about the history, wines, different flavours associated with different oaks and traditional methods of appassimento. Many thanks for the tour and tasting.

Great experience. I would never have thought of the space needed to store the wine. Knowledgeable staff and a 2 hour tour that is worth the day

A good experience. The staff explains everything in detail. A pleasant walk through the vineyards to reach the winery. Finally, a tasting of their wines (specified when booking). A pleasant atmosphere is created with the other guests on the tour. I've only visited this winery in Valpolicella and would recommend it.
