Terroir and grape varieties
Vinho Verde has some of the best vineyards in the country, and Quinta de Santa Cristina enjoys this fact. The microclimate paired with amazing soils and rainfall allows the growth of ripe and high-quality grapes for winemaking. Get to know the secrets of Vinho Verde wine production here. Batoca, Alvarinho, Arinto, Azal, Loureiro, Trajadura, Avesso, Padeiro, Espadeiro, and Vinhão grapes are used for making red, white, rose, and sparkling wines here.
Winemaking process at the winery
In Celorico de Basto, a brand new wine cellar was built for production. Grapes are picked manually and transported in proper boxes to the cellar. Grapes are stomped by foot in the traditional method of making red wine. Other wines are made with soft pressing followed by a press and then fermentation in temperature-controlled steel tanks. The estate is open for visitors all year and organizes fun tours and tastings for everyone. Plan a visit here as soon as you can
